What Is Philosophy in General?

Philosophy is considered to be the study or rather the contemplation of the higher ideals such as our existence, knowledge, reason and morals in in general.

Aquinas agreed with Aristotle in defining philosophy as the study of first principles or universal knowledge. This would, of course, include all the departments of knowledge, but most specifically the seeking of wisdom (truth) wherever it may be found.

Over the centuries the various department of knowledge have been so separated and developed by specialists that the study of philosophy has been somewhat limited to first principles of logic, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, and politics. People who occupy themselves mostly in these categories tend to be called philosophers. Outside these specialties they tend to be called something else: psychologist, historian, astronomer, biologist, physicist, etc.
 
Philosophy is the search for truth. However, if you don’t have a Christ centered philosophy then you are searching out lies.
 
Philosophy is the disinterested search for truth – taking a line of inquiry to its logical conclusion nomatter the outcome. It has five branches: Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Politics and Aesthetics.

Is Plato the way the Truth and the life? I’m not saying that a man’s opinion can’t convey meaning but if that opinion doesn’t confess the Spirit of Truth (The Holy Spirit) as presented by Father and Son then it (the man’s opinion) is irrelevant to actual Truth. A Christ centered philosophy admits the Spirit of Truth whereas Plato just guesses and assumes what the Truth to be. The Word of God should be the basis and foundation of all Truth. Plato doesn’t have the Word of God, his foundation is other men, not the God of Truth. Men are blind by themselves, they cannot know what Truth is unless God reveals it to them. The Truth was not revealed to Plato because no where in his works does he confess the God of Truth, Jesus Christ.

Isn’t he/she a philosopher.

I think he/she will have a good insight to what philosophy means.

I think you’re underestimating the importance of Plato to Western philosophy but I’ll leave it at that.
