In your opinion, what are things that come to your mind when you think of the phrase “Pro-life”?

If you are against abortion but not help the poor and the sick, do you consider yourself as a “Pro-life” person?

The main point when I think of “Pro-life,” is being against abortion. Since I am pro-life, I am also against embryonic stem cell research, and cloning. Helping the poor and sick should be followed by being pro-life. I’m not sure what you’re saying. Are you saying if you do not donate to charity but are against abortion you may not be pro-life?

Hi ReeferShepard! No, I wasn’t having that in my mind when posting the post though it might sound it that way. You don’t have to donate to charity to say you are pro-life; there are different ways to pro-life.

I just wanted to know what people think of “pro-life”. How they define it.

My view of being pro-life is that of the Church:

When it speaks on the 5th commandment-- which talks about what we shouldn’t do– and also when it speaks on solidarity with the poor, work for economic and Social Justice-- which is about what we should do-- the Church is teaching us that every aspect of Church teaching is about being “pro-life”.

After all-- Jesus’s central message is pro-life: I came so that you might have life and have it more abundantly. Jesus was not just speaking about physical life. While all of the injustices of this world must be fought, it is twice over as important to help people find Salvation. The life of the soul is infiinitely more precious than the life of the body.

To be fully pro-life is to strive to enact the Gospel values in your own life, to fight for justice, to fight against injustice, to work for laws protecting the weak at both ends of the spectrum, and to always proclaim the Truth and help others find Salvation.

How we do that will depend upon our circumstances in life.

wow, thanks for your great answer, 1ke!
It is hard to be a fully pro-life person, isn’t it? we can only do the best we could with God’s grace and help.

Being pro-life is like Jesus’ seamless garment.

From the womb to the tomb…whatever it takes…to protect all life.
Whether it is to work & pray actively towards respect for all life, against abortion, against fetal stem cell research, against euthanasia, against capital punishment…against unfair labor, against slavery…you name it.

All life is important!
