What is progress?

What is your definition of progress? What are the different axes of progress such as technological, social, political, scientific, religious, and economic? How does progress related to the concept of teleology related to purpose or goals? Has there been progress lately? What factors cause progress?

(Maybe “progress” is an easier word than “modernity” for people to understand and I hope this thread is more inclusive.)

Individually, progress is to get more Holy, to get closer to God. As society, progress is for more people to believe and seek to be Holy. That is the only progress that stands the test of eternity.

Since the final end of man, his final causality, is the Beatific Vision, true progress is that which leads towards this life with God. Progress in the religion of secularism is the “salvation” of science, technology, politics, and government in opposition to godly virtue, charity, and the acceptance of God’s Grace working in us.

How does progress related to the concept of teleology related to purpose or goals?

Grace is either accepted or it is blocked by sin. The goal of those in opposition to this Grace of God change according to the times. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, created things find their perfection in Him.

As man is moved by God and sin blocks the workings of His Grace, man is moved toward the final end of his life and of creation, Judgment Day. Those in union with God through Sanctifying Grace and filial adoption are to enjoy this Beatific Vision and those who reject it are to suffer separation from God. The seed of this Glory is Sanctifying Grace known by the effects in us by the Cause that is God.
