As in, “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee,” and other such references to the Blessed Virgin.

“Therefore,” adds Mary, “miserable will he be, who, while it is in his power, has not recourse to me, who am merciful.”
So the above quote just means if you don’t ask, you’re in a bad position?
(By the way, if someone is a Doctor of the Church, does that mean that their teachings should be spread around liberally without fear?)

I don’t know. People tend to say that saints are not infallible if it disagrees with their sentiments and thoughts on stuff.

A Doctor of the Church is a Saint whom the Church has deemed worthy to have a special place as a theologian. That does not mean Catholics have to follow what they say but Doctors of the Church generally hold more theological clout.

As in, “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee,” and other such references to the Blessed Virgin.
That phrase is the English translation from the Miraculous Medal: Ô Marie, conçue sans péché, priez pour nous qui avons recours à vous.

Recourse is the action by which one solicits the help of someone. Ws ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to pray for us, as in the Hail Mary prayer: “now and at the hour of our death”. The purpose is to help us to remain free from sin, to stay in a state of grace, that we have final repentance.

from the dictionary:
a turning to someone or something for help or protection

I like to to think of the word recourse - as a strong sense of direction towards -

Like after taking scenic backroads in a small town…
you then make a turn - and your now on a ramp ,
picking up speed, approaching her highway !

Recourse to thee 😇

Maybe a better question is how to have recourse to Mary and persevere in it?
