IMO reverence, in it’s purest form, is the acknowledgment-the “knowingness”-of the awesomeness of a particular thing, generally accompanied by some sort of physical response born from emotion.
 
Reverence is the second of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit; it is also called “piety”. The first, sometimes called “wonder and awe” and othertimes called “fear of the Lord” is the gift that allows us to respond with wonder to God and the holy fear of offending Him. Reverence, then, is the gift of acting with holiness towards God and the people and things of God.
