What is Salvation, a Catholic and Lutheran view

What is it and is there a difference and protestants and Catholic thinking?
 
so Adam and eve where in a state of Slavation when first from, or not since they were exposed to temptation?
 
Lutheranism has this massive chasm between Catholicism and I am trying to understand that if any of it was needed.
