Did I spell that right?

I keep hearing people refer to it on this board. I looked it up and found sites for OCD. Is it something to do with a repetitive action or something you keep blaming yourself for?

I’m confused. You guys have to stop using big words 😃 Keep it simple for me :rotfl:

Spelling first - scrupulosity. If you have it, you are scrupulous.

Scrupulosity is closely related to OCD. It means that you have trouble discerning what is sinful - thinking every little thing is a mortal sin, that you never feel that you have confessed your sins properly and that you are therefore not forgiven, and being tormented by unwanted thoughts that you think are impure or blasphemous. Some people worry about things like honoring images of the Cross when it appears randomly in life, like two french fries that intersect. Scrupulous people tend to make general confession after general confession trying to get relief, but this does not help.

The classic advice is to find one confessor who knows how to handle scrupulosity, confess to him exclusively, and follow his advice to the letter. The other advice is to see if there is a medical condition such as OCD that may be causing the trouble, and getting treatment for that.

Now that you know how to spell it, do a search on CAF - there are gazillions of threads that will demonstrate it for you.

Thank-you. I thought it was something like OCD. I asked my husband (who works in the mental health field) and he hadn’t heard of it. Guess it’s a religious word, then. I’ve seen the posts. That’s what peaked my intrest. Thanks for explaining.
