In my way of thinking, “settling” is picking someone who does not meet one’s expectations due to a *misguided *belief that one cannot do better or does not deserve to do better. Settling may also include the idea that anything *now *is better than waiting for something better later.
The keyword is misguided.
(There are also people who are misguided into looking for someone who is or has “more” (of something) than what that particular person could or should expect. )
I would also add that one’s young peer group is more often than not a bad judge of what are reasonable expectations of oneself and of one’s choice in a mate. The peer group is often responsible for developing the criteria and/or the ranking of said criteria for evaluating both oneself and one’s potential partner. And peer groups are notorious for being wrong on both counts.
At this point in your life, I think you need to spend more time becoming.
What I suggest to young men such as yourself is to spend at least as much time making sure you, yourself, are a “good catch” in all aspects of your life (spiritual, recreational, financial, physical, etc.) as you do in looking for *THAT *girl.

Take it from someone who has done nothing but “settle” since she started dating, it is not something you want to do. If you think for any reason you might be settling then move on and find someone who meets you expectations. Best of luck to you.
