Is sharia law suppose to be violent?

Can someone explain this to me:
asianews.it/index.php?l=en&art=14650&size=A

I know that there are extremists in every religion but when was the last time you heard a law in Christianity that was used to kill people of another religion.

“One woman has been killed, and 28 people have been injured. Thousands are fleeing after the introduction of sharia law.”

BTW, I am a Maronite Catholic who came from Lebanon, which was full of religious warfare.

From what Muslim posters on here have said, no, it should not be violent. According to them, it is a problem in implamentation.

But, if you know a tree by its fruits…

We had an American Muslim poster (not Sister Amy) who desired the replacement of the US Constitution with Sharia law. When pressed on the issue as to why, the answer was simple: he was Muslim. In my opinion, the US Code of Law, for all its problems, is the best code of Law and the Constitution is the best guide for forming a government created by man. It protects religious freedom, it grants people basic human rights (once they are defined as people), and it insures the peaceful transition of governement.

The real question should be, “Who made Shar’ia law”? Was it Muhammad or Allah?

Here are the top ten reasons why sharia or Islamic law is bad for all societies.
  1. Islam commands that drinkers and gamblers should be whipped.
  2. Islam allows husbands to hit their wives even if the husbands merely fear highhandedness in their wives.
  3. Islam allows an injured plaintiff to exact legal revenge—physical eye for physical eye
  4. Islam commands that a male and female thief must have a hand cut off.
  5. Islam commands that highway robbers should be crucified or mutilated.
  6. Islam commands that homosexuals must be executed
  7. Islam orders unmarried fornicators to be whipped and adulterers to be stoned to death.
  8. Islam orders death for Muslim and possible death for non-Muslim critics of Muhammad and the Quran and even sharia itself.
  9. Islam orders apostates to be killed.
  10. Islam commands offensive and aggressive and unjust jihad

Does anyone know, is there a comprehensive book/list of all the laws in sharia law? I’m just curious because Muslims say there is no Muslim country implementing sharia fully or properly, but I would venture to say that the Taliban and other such groups sincerely believe they are properly implementing the law. So, my question is who is right and how does one determine that - is there a code of law that one can turn to and say “Yes, this is what the law should be” or “No, that is not correct”? Just curious. Thanks. 🙂

A list of it? I think that would take ages to type it all down. IMO, it’s quite impossible to list everything in Sha’aria law because although it does have specific regulations it is also largely based on unwritten Islamic traditions and not a single Muslim body can rightfully claim to be the sole authority to rightly guide in Sha’aria matters. Which is why corruption and bias judgements can occur in Sha’aria courts.

Sharia law is implemented violently because it is based upon the Koran, which is basically a book of war. It’s foundation is violent, thus it can’t help but be implemented violently.

The primary problem muslims have with the US Constitution is that it is of human origin, it is of men. For muslims all knowledge must flow from the Koran. Human rights, democracy, the arts and science are all of human origin, thus they have no place in the lives of muslims.

All note that the muslims who say that’s not what the Koran is about probably cannot actually read the Koran in the original language. They might quote lines but they really don’t know what it says. Or they probably just use one of the water-down Koran’s from the local book store.

Sharia law is interesting. I don’t think it’s exactly just, but it is interesting. It’s kind of like the law of the Roman Empire - but only kind of. The Roman law, especially under Nero, was very violent, and it specifically targeted Christians as enemies of the Empire. Sharia law is kind of like this in that it divides people into classes: Muslims enjoy full rights, presumptiously because they’re fully human; Christians and Jews are second-class citizens, presumptiously because they’re “pigs” or “dogs”; and everyone else is a third-class citizen, like a slave, presumptiously because Allah created man for the Muslims. It’s like a twist on the “meek shall inherit the earth” beatitude: a complete oppose of it, in fact.

Muslims pushing sharia law on others simply because they’re Muslim shows a true lack of charity and respect for religious freedom. I guess when Islam hails freedom of religion, it just means freedom to practice Islam. Christians and Jews under sharia law are not ever allowed to practice their faith publicly, and Christians are especially not allowed to worship Jesus - because, you know, Muslims don’t see Jesus as God. It’s very similar to how the Nazis ruled Germany before they started sending Jews to the concentration cams: they said they were protecting the Jews, yet no Jew was allowed religious freedom. It was a type of persecution veiled under the disguise of compassion and respect - though thinly veiled. You don’t convince Muslims of this, though, because it’s not in the Qu’ran or Hadiths.

who said sharia law is not a human made law?😃
Wherever Muslima become 50% of native population ,they asks for sharia-th implementation.that is a fact.this law cannot come from a true god.it is human made.and those billionaires, kings etc in Islamic countries really don’t come under sharia.that means ,this law is to treat poor muslima and kuffrs to a barbaric law.😦

Well ,even if muslima are not a majority ,they force their women to follow shariath dress code.

Shariah law is a legal system based upon the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah. The expansion of Sharia Islamic Law is the Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence based on Qur’an and Sunnah). The Qur’an is the central religious text of Islam. The Sunna is the manner or deeds of Muhammad and validated by the consensus of companions of Muhammad (Sahaba) in Sunni Islam, and the way or deeds of Muhammad and the twelve Imams in Shi’a Islam.
Altogether There are passages in both books that support violence against those who do not accept Islam or do not submit to Muslim authority…
Here are some examples:
Qur’an Surah 9:
Allah said, Fight against those who believe not in Allah, nor in the Last Day, nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth among the People of the Scripture, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Qur’an Surah 61: (repeated twice)
Verily, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in rows

Sahih Bukhari, 1:2:24: Allah’s Apostle said: “I have been ordered (by Allah) to fight against the people until they testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle, and offer the prayers perfectly and give the obligatory charity, so if they perform a that, then they save their lives an property from me except for Islamic laws and then their reckoning (accounts) will be done by Allah.”

What we see is Jihad and Jihad actually means struggling or “fighting for the cause of Allah.” The cause of Allah is defined as “He who fights so that Allah’s’ Word should be superior,” meaning the establishment of Shariah, or Islamic law in a culture or society (Bukhari IV, Chap 15, #65, pg. 50). Moreover, “struggling” requires the use of one’s life and property (Bukhari IV, Chap 2, #44, p. 37, chapt 27, p. 58, p. 63), and therefore Jihad is the use of any and all means.

Concerning the Qur’an not many people realize that the peaceful verses, or Surahs and ayas of the Qur’an were abrogated when Muhammad acquired an army and was established as the leader of the new Muslim community in Madinah. For example Sura 2:256 was abrogated by Sura 9 and so forth. One does not have to understand this to know that there really is not “religious freedom” and where there is, it is considered temporary and not a right from the Islamic viewpoint. For example,if there is no “compulsion in religion” why can a Muslim not become a Christian without being killed?
Surah 9: “But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then are they your brethren in religion. We detail our revelations for a people who have knowledge. And if they break their pledges after their treaty (hath been made with you) and assail your religion, then fight the heads of disbelief – Lo! they have no binding oaths in order that they may desist.”
Bukhari, volume 9, #17: "Narrated Abdullah: Allah’s Messenger said, “The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Messenger, cannot be shed except in three cases: in Qisas (equality in punishment) for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (Apostate) and leaves the Muslims.”

I have quoted here The Reliance of the Traveller, which is an authentic book on shariah law, though not complete, and somewhat sanitised in the English text (though still bad enough). You can buy this from Amazon (I did 😃 ). It will suit most of your purposes in discussing Islam with muslims.

There is no single authoriative piece of “legislative law” which encompasses shariah (fiqh) law as a single entity, nor is there a single authoriative organisation whereby decisions under shariah can be appealed. It is simply a mish-mash of legal opinions based on the qur’an, sayings and traditions of mohammed. Certain laws are set as at about 11th Century, eg stoning of adulterers, cutting of hand/feet for theft, and cannot be changed. Only those issues that are new can be assessed, but according to the current shariah law and the qur’an, sayings and traditions of mohammed.

So shariah law simply means whoever has the power right down to the local community gets to implement shariah. One of the many problems with it is, that individuals can enact shariah justice, when of course it is too late for the victim of it, and they usually get off, or get off very lightly.

Islam is pure law of the jungle, but without the justice found even in the jungle.

Here’s what I don’t understand: if there is no comprehensive book/list which tells Muslims what is the law and/or punishments for breaking the law, how can the Muslim posters here claim that there is no Muslim country operating completely under sharia law? How do they know? For example, in Saudi Arabia, what laws do they have that are not part of sharia? And how does one know that they are not? If it is something that goes against the Quran which sharia laws are supposed to be based on, then I would think there would be an outcry from the citizens. I just don’t get it.

I did find some info. from the “Reliance of the Traveller” which I used in the “No compulsion in religion” thread regarding how in Islam Muslims and possibly non-Muslims should be put to death if they criticize Muhammad. Sister Amy told me this was a “silly” law that she thought I got from R_Not (🤷), so she obviously didn’t recognize it as sharia law. (although she still thought it is an acceptable practice.)

This wiki explanation might help.

Sister Amy is not an authentic source for validity on Islamic beliefs, customs, laws etc. Islam is as set in the qur’an, sayings and traditions of mohammed. We can only rely on authoriative sources, not individual muslims unsubstantiated opinions. This applies to any person who is an adherent of a group, Catholics included. Except for Catholics, we have the Magisterium, so a Catholic is only able to say they disagree with this or that, not that a particular thing is not a Catholic belief if it can be proved so from authentic sources.

Sister Amy is telling you she disagrees with the authentic sources for what Islam is and is not. Sister Amy doesn’t explain to you how she then remains a muslim when she purports to disagree with most of it. I don’t think cafeteria muslims survive long in an Islamic country. 🤷

Of course, Sister Amy et el could be very good muslims indeed and practising taqiya (lying) which is prescribed for them under islamic fiqh to advance islam. 😃

Chrisse,

Thanks for the link! 🙂 I understand Sister Amy is not an expert. I just used her for an example because I believe she is the one who said there are no Muslim countries that fully implement sharia. I just don’t understand - How does she know this? What laws does Saudi Arabia have, for example, that violate sharia? And how can one prove this? I’m sure the leaders of Saudi Arabia believe they are fully implementing sharia, just as I’m sure the Taliban believes they are.

The Taliban says girls should not be educated and is, in fact, burning down their schools. Muslims here say Muhammad encouraged education and said that it was extremely important for everyone. I believe they have even quoted the appropriate verses. So, did the Taliban just make up this rule with no supporting Islamic texts? (If so, why aren’t all the Muslims uniting to stop them?) Or are there just differing Islamic texts being interpreted differently to create this disparity?

I’m sure the leaders of Saudi Arabia believe they are fully implementing sharia,
Yes indeed, Saudi Arabia is fully implementing sharia and Quran is the constitution of Saudi Arabia:

Source#1:
The central institution of the Saudi Arabian government is the Saudi monarchy. The Basic Law of Government adopted in 1992 declared that Saudi Arabia is a monarchy ruled by the sons and grandsons of the first king, Abd Al Aziz Al Saud. It also claims that the Qur’an is the constitution of the country, which is governed on the basis of the Sharia (Islamic Law).

Source#2:
It is the fundamental assumption of the polity of Saudi Arabia that the Holy Qur’an is more suitable for Saudi Muslims than any secular constitution.

Thank you, Sam! I should have thought to ask you in the first place. :o

Here were Sister Amy’s quotes from the “No compulsion in religion” thread:
**Sister Amy **Well I like Shari’ah (the real one, not the make-believe one you believe in), and if I ever see it established somewhere, God willing, I will try to move there.
**Sister Amy **Of course there are no countries today implementing real Shari’ah. That’s the problem, all the Muslim countries are horribly corrupt. No scholar of Islam would suggest that the Taliban or any group like them is properly implementing Shari’ah.
Just about every Muslim in the world is praying that Shari’ah can be established for the Muslims somewhere. So you can pray for corruption, and evil, and wickedness to reign, but I will be praying for justice and truth.
Is there any validity to her statements that sharia is not being properly implemented in your country due to corruption?

Do the ‘religious police’ have a “guide book/rule book” etc. that tells what the specific laws are and what the corresponding punishments are?

Thank you! And may God bless you and protect you! :signofcross:

Corruption is everywhere, even here in Saudi Arabia, but there is a red line when that corruption reaches the sharia law, no one dare to cross that line no matter what, an example of that is building Churches for Christians, simply no matter what political pressures are forced at Saudi Arabia, this thing would be almost impossible to have, because simply there is authentic hadith prohibiting that, and the government knows that it can’t cross that red line and allow Churches.

The problem with the non Arabic speakers that they aren’t aware of all the Islamic laws, they rely only on the translated books they have (which considered to be very few) and on their clerics (whom are politically motivated).
Do the ‘religious police’ have a “guide book/rule book” etc. that tells what the specific laws are and what the corresponding punishments are?
The religious police, the clerics, and our Islamic courts are following these references in general:
  1. Quran.
  2. The nine books of Hadith.
  3. The Feqh.
  4. Fatwas.
All the above are well documented in Saudi Arabia “Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Dawah and Guidance” official site, but you have to switch to the Arabic version to get all the above because most of them aren’t translated to other languages.
Thank you! And may God bless you and protect you! :signofcross:
:blessyou:

Is the prohibition against women driving and going out only accompanied by an acceptable male relative part of sharia law?

Setting aside “divine origin,” I would love to see a side by side of sharia law and US law. I think that it would be interesting to compair them and see which theory is best. Not implimentation, but theory
