What is sin?
To sin is to go against God. God gave Moses ten commandment. Jesus summed them up into love for God and love for our fellow human beings. Therefore, to go against love-which is to be selfish, is to sin. Jesus showed us what true love is. He loved us first; without expecting anything in return. He loved us by sacrificing His life in order to compensate for our sins; although we betrayed Him and was unfaithful to Him. Only this kind of love is free of selfishness or sin. Therefore, to be free of sin we must love God and our fellow human being unconditionally.

Sin… is a “love” of evil.

There are 613 laws that were given to the people of Israel through Moses not just 10. Sin is from the Greek “to miss the mark” an archery term. Not to miss the bulls eye by an inch but to so miss the target as to be a bafoon. It’s almost like saying, “You shot yourself in the foot.” That is sin. It is to be so far out side of perfect that it’s laughable.

Sin is a condition as well as actions or inactions. Jesus died for our condition so as to make us one again, thus He is our atonement (at-one-ment). He didn’t die so that we may never act or not act again. No, free-will is still alive and well.

Jesus absolutely expected something in return… If you love me you will keep my commandments. This is a condition with a proven measurement build it. How much do you love God? How well do you follow His commandments and with sort of attitude do you do so? Jesus died for all. Does that mean all will be saved? No, it doesn’t. What love is there for the damned? None, they are cursed. They had an opportunity and squandered it. It is not God’s love that sends them to Hell.

Therefore, to be free of sin we must love God and our fellow human being unconditionally.

Love covers a multitude of sins but it does not free us from our condition of Sin. If it did then Jesus would not have had to be a sacrifice. His teachings would be sufficient and His blood need not be spilled.
