Is it the looking part or the intention on the part of the looker?

In one case, looking at pornography as such is bad but in the second case, looking as such must be backed-up with a bad intention.

Or is it an amalgam of both?

Whether you have a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ intention it leads to sin.

And what on earth is a good intention for looking at pornography! Anyone who tries to tell themselves that is fooling themselves, but not God.

God gave us sex so we could share in His creation. It is a sacred thing to co-operate with God in bringing a human person into existence. This is the purpose of sex, not the perversions that betray this sacred gift. As we co-operate in forming the child’s body, God places within it an immortal loved soul.

Someone told me this once, and it has stayed with me: “Aside from the perversion of pornography, the key is self gratification. It is a lack of dedication that is mirrored in weak faith.”

The sinful part about it is that you are lusting. Lust according to the bible, is wrong.
The only time you can lust is lusting after the person you are married to, in which sexual relations can be met, so there is no problem with it.

Also you help an industry which has exploited numerous young women into leading lives of perversion.

Gods’ word says that He who does what is sinful is of the devil (1 John 3:8).Gods word says that the wicked encourage themselves in an evil matter, make a mock and Boast at sin, Cannot cease from sins and they throw blame on others and God (Psalm 64:5, Isaiah 3:9, Proverbs 14:9, Genesis 3:12, Genesis 3:12-13, Jeremiah 7:10)

God’s word says that the wicked Delight and tempt others to do sin (1 Kings 16:2, Proverbs 1:10-14, Hosea 7:3, Romans 1:32)

God’s word says that for sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. Romans 6:14

God’s word says that No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God (1 John 3:9)

God’s word says Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)

God’s word says that to live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature .Gal. 5:16

God says that in your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. Heb. 12:4

God’s word says that therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. (Rom. 6:12)

25 Lies of Pornography:

Pornography is just another form of entertainment.
Pornography is normal.
Pornography won’t hurt me.
Pornography won’t affect my behavior.
Pornography won’t hurt my family.
Pornography will satisfy.
Pornography won’t lead to more dangerous activities.
A little Pornography is all right.
I can stop whenever I want to, or, I can’t stop.
I can keep this a secret and …]

Pornography attacks the dignity of men and women created in the image of God. Pornography also distorts God’s gift of sex, which should be shared only within the bonds of marriage (1 Cor. 7:2-3). When the Bible refers to human sexual organs, it often employs euphemisms and indirect language. Although there are some exceptions, generally Scripture maintains a basic modesty towards a man’s or woman’s sexual organs.

Moreover, Scripture specifically condemns the practices that result from pornography such as sexual exposure (Gen. 9:21-23), adultery (Lev. 18:20), bestiality (Lev. 18:23), homosexuality (Lev. 18:22 and 20:13), incest (Lev. 18:6-18), and prostitution (Deut. 23:17- 18).

A biblical perspective of human sexuality must recognize that sexual intercourse is exclusively reserved for marriage for the following purposes. First, it establishes the one-flesh union (Gen. 2:24-25, Matt. 19:4-6). Second, it provides for sexual intimacy within the marriage bond. The use of the word know indicates the profound meaning of sexual intercourse (Gen. 4:1). Third, sexual intercourse is for the mutual pleasure of husband and wife (Prov. 5:18-19). Fourth, sexual intercourse is for procreation (Gen. 1:28).

The Bible warns against the misuse of sex. Premarital and extramarital sex is condemned (1 Cor. 6:13-18; 1 Thess. 4:3). Even thoughts of sexual immorality (often fed by pornographic material) are condemned (Matt. 5:27-28).

Christians, therefore, must do two things. First, they must work to keep themselves pure by fleeing immorality (1 Cor. 6:18) and thinking on those things that are pure (Phil. 4:8). As a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Prov. 23:7). Christians must make no provision for the flesh (Rom. 13:14). Pornography fuels the sexual desire in abnormal ways and can eventually lead to even more debased perversions. We must, therefore, “abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” (1 Peter 2:11). Second, Christians must work to remove this sexual perversion of pornography from society.

Hope this answers

Better do your homework. Lust is sinful wether within marriage or not! You may not lust after your spouse, lust is lust is sinful.

Uhm, no its not. Because you get off WITH your spouse. And you can’t not lust them while that is happening 🤷

I’m pretty sure its okay to get ‘excited’ shall we say, with your spouse. It is healthy and normal.

A guy cannot get to where he ‘needs to be’ to make some babies without lusting after his wife. I’m not going to say it but I hope you figure it out. Either way, do not debate me on this.

Also too, we are animals and have instinct to reproduce.

There is no need for debate, you just don’t know what the word lust means.

I think you need to do more homework 🙂

Lust is always wrong. One should not lust after ones partner. Part and parcel of lust is selfish self gratification. Hence the sin.

Sexually excited/wanting to make love to spouse =/= lust.

lust

–noun
1.
intense sexual desire or appetite.

You for sex with your spouse hence getting ‘excited’.

But whatever, this does not need to be talked about anymore. I see it for what it is: the actual definition. Subject dropped now.

Ther Late Holy Father Pope John Paul II said Pornogphraphy is forbodden and that means period. No ifs, ans or buts.

I say Nay’ my brothers! Pornography is not a sin, but an amalgamation of all ye intentions inside ye hollow rectums.

Follow me ye father and thy son whilst we partake in the masturbation of the glorious pornography held before us by Almighty God!

For he did not for no reason send adam and eve to Brazzers nor did he send his son David to Reality Kings without a cause. For it was to teach them the ways of Glory.

So everybody join hands and partake in the fingering of thy anus, for it was created on the 7th day for man to pleasure himself with. Bask in the glory of anal creapie my bretheren! For it is the righteous way.

However, after indulgence of thyself, one must purify oneself after such deed with the holiest of napkins plucked from the tree of life itself!

Jesus is Lord!

Join hands my bretheren, in the holy circle jerk that is the halo over Ezekiel’s mighty head!

Praise God, for we all know he is up there, beating the holiest of meats whilst viewing with His Holy eyes the skripture of the book of Jizzhut. Let his sacred juices flow from the heavens above and rain upon the Man created in his image. For we are created from the very inner fathoms of his testicles, by the glorious sperm ejaculated from his heavenly cock.

The sin is in the thought, as well as the action however the two needn’t be together to accumulate into sin.

No my friend, thats not how it works 🙂 I don’t want to argue to prove you wrong, but to make sure you don’t mislead others or justify your own lust if that may be the case.

Lust is a Seven Deadly Sin. What do you not understand? Is there a caveat? No. Because Lust is Lust. I think part of the reason for your confusion is that you think I am (or the definition itself) somehow detracting from and making sinful the feelings you may have for your wife. That isn’t the case at all - unless you are lusting after her.

Let’s take another example and apply it, to make sure you know what Lust is, but first let’s get the real definition, not the interwebz 30second google copy paste definition, which by the way you left out the other definitions in order to justify your own point, I see.

Lust is a strong, excessive, inordinate desire. Not only in Christian terms but in every day terms too. You don’t meet a pretty girl and say “I lust after you” because she will be repulsed. Lust is be it’s definition an excess and geared towards the self. That should already make it clear that it shouldn’t ever exist, even in the context of marriage - because marriage is not about the self. Getting turned on or sexually excited is not lust.

Let’s look at it from the point of view of say, food. Gluttony. Do we need to be gluttonous if we are starving? Are we gluttonous if we are hungry? No. Certainly not. For it is only natural to be hungry and to look at food and think about how tasty it is. Gluttony is the inordinate, excessive want for satisfaction coming from food. It is an unbounded, unrestrained and selfish consumption.

What about, say, envy, another deadly sin. If we admire someones new car, or their new house, or are pleasantly happy for them that they got a good job does that make us envious? No, certainly not. Because envy is the evil of wishing so much you had something that another has, that you wish evil upon them and you near despise what you already have.

Do you see the correlation and the point I am making?

You seem to think the Church (who only speaks from logic and natural law) is defining things as sins when they shouldn’t be. God, and thus, His Church, doesn’t make natural things sinful. If it were sinful to be excited by your wife then nobody on earth would exist ever.

The words though, don’t matter. Whether the word is “lust” or “floobydoody” it doesn’t really matter. What matters is the intent and the state of the soul. So maybe that’s where you are tripping up. But words carry meaning and intend to convey something, and so lust which carries a meaning is something that is bad.

We should never lust, not even after our wife.

Getting excited or aroused over your spouse is NOT lust. Once again I’ll say go do your homework. Maybe a quick check of the dictionary will help you out.

Several posts about “spousal lust” or the lack thereof seem to beg the question, “What about if a married couple were to make videos of themselves…you know…and watched them to get themselves worked up. Sinful?”

Okay then if you guys claim that a married couple getting ‘excited’ for sex (with eachother) is not lust, then what the heck would you call it?

They are lusting for sex with eachother WHOM they love. What is wrong with that? I understand that lust over somebody else who you are not married to is wrong, but maybe you and I are just seeing it differently. No, I’m not trying to justify anything, I just don’t get why you don’t see what I’m saying.

Quit saying “go do your homework”. Instead, step up to the plate and tell me which word you think I should use and why I should use it.

Lust as defined by catholic morals is an inordinate desire for anything for one’s own personal gratification without regards.

You seem to be agitated because we are not agreeing with you - but the burden of proof is on you, not us, because you are going against traditional understanding of the word itself and of the Christian understanding of the word and its context.

I have stepped up to the plate and explained why you are wrong. But it seems that you are tripping up over the word itself. Why do you need a word to use? You’re being argumentative for the sake of it, at least that’s how it looks. You yourself provide the word - excited. Look at your wife, get excited. Passionate. Joyful. Open. Loving.

A couple that is excited, is excited. I don’t see the problem. You are just assuming from nowhere that excited = lust or that relations = lust.

Arousal, desire, attraction. All of these work. “Lust” is a word for all the inordinate sinful sexual desires, not the completely licit desires.

Necessarily, lust and love do not co-exist. Love says “this is my body, given for you.” Lust says “this is your body, taken by me.” The attitude in marital relations ought to be love, not lust. Love can include desire without becoming lust.
