What is so important about the Angelus?

Hello, I am a Catholic and attend a Traditional Latin Mass. They have told us a few times that it is important to pray the Angelus three times a day everyday @ 6 am 12pm and 6 pm. I was wondering what for and why it is important.

It is simply an old custom of puntuating the day with this prayer that celebrates the incarnation of our Lord. See:
