I see/hear this term a lot, but I have difficulty with the concept. Anyone have any thoughts on how it’s defined and how it can present itself?

We are in constant spiritual warfare with demons, whether we are aware of it, or not (most are not.) It is for this reason among many others that we must stay close to God.

Spiritual warfare is the battle that takes place in the mind and will and is played out in the reality of the world… In the mind is where the suggestion and knowledge of good or evil are placed, either from God or the devil, for us to process and the decision is our will as to how we choose. whether to follow the evil suggestions or the good suggestions in a particular situation.I see/hear this term a lot, but I have difficulty with the concept. Anyone have any thoughts on how it’s defined and how it can present itself?

It seems to be a sort of general rule to call the interior fight against vice spiritual combat, and the exterior fight against demonic influence spiritual warfare.

The way Ive been told about this is, there is constant battles going on between demons and angels, we cannot see this going on, its in the spiritual realm, but at the same time, its happening ‘right under our noses’, kind of like, on another ‘plane of existence’, if the curtains were parted, we would be able to see all this taking place.
Although this doesnt seem logical when you know God is allowing Satan/demons to do much of what they do, so while God has his own angels battling the demons, he is allowing the demons to do everything they do…?? Seems like aiding the enemy to me, but I guess its different somehow?

I’ve never heard that before, but I like it. I wonder how that compares to the “thorn” in St. Paul’s side? A messenger of Satan that keeps him humble? Or not too pushy, maybe?I have heard some people suggest that it is like having an accuser in your head.

Therefore, that I might not become too elated, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated.
It seems like that would also go along well with his talk in Rom 7 about the law of sin and death…

Could be. But, paraphrasing St. Teresa of Avila,I have heard some people suggest that it is like having an accuser in your head.
“The devil will try to upset you by accusing you of being unworthy of the blessings that you have received. Simply remain cheerful and do your best to ignore the devil’s nagging. If need be even laugh at the absurdity of the situation. Satan, the epitome of sin itself, accuses you of unworthiness! When the devil reminds you of your past, remind him of his future!”

Usually when I am very focused on prayer, a series of “bad” things will start to happen… almost as if to draw me away from God. The message that is in my mind is “see? you’re praying to Him and look at the bad things He’s allowing to happen to you”.

Earth is our testing ground for our eternity. We are tried and tested in perseverance, love, trust in God and so many other things. If we truly trust God, then we have to also trust in his eternal care of our life here on earth. He will send us trials to make us stronger and for our benefit, many times to show us our weaknesses. He will show us that, perhaps, we lack the trust in Him and the perseverance that He knows we must develop for this journey. We should look at our trials and tribulations and try to see what He is trying to get us to learn to do in order that we become more like Jesus. Perhaps, you might need to focus more on really trusting in Jesus and His all knowing care for you, more than what the devil is suggesting to you to keep you from developing this trust. The devil does not want you to trust Jesus because this destroys his plan to get your soul. Just a thought.Thank you all for your responses.
