Are you from Liverpool?
No , but it’s funny you should say that . On Monday I’m going to Liverpool for a few days .

I’m from a Lancashire town where they used to make the world’s toughest brick - - - - - - - (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

And we have a world-famous football team . 😉

The only football game I ever went to was Blackpool v Cardiff at Cardiff. Can’t remember the year. Stanley Matthews was playing. Amazing skill…and paid peanuts. I seem to recall that Blackpool won 1 - 0.

Am I correct in saying that the Acc. Stanley club I recall is not the current one. Seem to remember the old club dying out. Too much energy spent trying to beat Leeds United, I expect

Yes , Stanley were bankrupt in 1962 , but the re-formed team started to be put into place in 1968 . They were promoted to the Football League in 2006 , and were promoted last season from League 2 to League 1.

So keep an eye on them . They are on the way up .

I had a maths professor who was from Lancashire. He taught me differential geometry, the principles of which are used in Einstein’s general relativity.

I do admire an optimist. 😉

My father was a collier (as was I, in due course). Like a lot of folk he did the football pools. I used to listen - enraptured - to a very cultured BBC voice reciting a litany of teams and results. By clever modulation of tone and delivery this man would indicate - in advance - when a draw had been achieved; thus alerting his listeners to yet another step on their road to riches (or not, as on most roads…including my Dad’s).

Certain names lodged in my head: Accrington Stanley; Bishop Auckland; and - above all - Hamilton Academical. This team impressed the most, because I could see them - as clear as day - dashing around the field in their mortar hats and student gowns….doing their sums and essays; and scribbling a hundred lines for every infringement.

Happy memories!

PS: And on Saturday nights (I think) Charles Chilton’s ‘Journey into Space’ 😨

well i am only 18, i wanted to know if there are any teens as well, or mostly adults
Glad you are on CAF. As far as I can tell, there are a LOT more young people here than there were 9 months ago.

You might want to consider making a poll, that way people can choose an age category and answer it anonymously.

A Lancastrian’s idea of ‘differential geometry’ is how to locate his left hand from his right. 😀

PS: Shhhhh…don’t let on to Rob that I said this.
