When you are Mature enough to know when you want them. My Son is 34, he only got married last year, they cannot afford kids just now, My other Son has 2 children, he is 29 so no-one can tell you when is the right - wrong time, it is a personal decision.

I can’t answer your question, but someday this one will enter your thoughts: ā€œTill what age should you have children?ā€ Speaking for ourselves only; - I am 62, my wife is 57, and our youngest has just turned 13. What joy for us (at our age) to still have 3 kids at home. AND, we have many friends in the same situation. Hope this helps you, and many others here.
I can relate to what you are saying! I am 48 and just found out I’m pregnant with my 4th child. My other three will be 18, 16, and 13 when this baby is born, God willing of course. I have a question for you, Joseph… was it difficult to adjust to a baby later in life?. I am complete stunned about this pregnancy, and am honestly a bit concerned about our ages (DH is 54). My concern is not so much about the risks of miscarriage or chromosomal abnormalities since that is totally in God’s hands, but moreso about how old we will be when this child is in high school (also in God’s hands but scary nonetheless). Are there any other older parents on this forum who have had children in their late 40s?

There is no ā€œbest ageā€ that works for everyone. You know if the time is right, and shouldn’t listen to what society tells you is the ā€œbest age.ā€ Goodness knows, society is a bit narcissistic, and tells everyone to think of themselves first!

for us? Dh and I were married in college at the age of 22 and had our first baby that first year. Its 18 years later and we just had baby no. 9. I’d say 22 yrs was the perfect age for us. 😃
9 kids!!!1 WOW!!! heheh please pray that I’ll be pregnant this year! and I hope it will be TWINS!!!

I just got married last year. I’m turning 31 this year. I hope that it’s still a good age for getting pregnant

I don’t think there is a best age that applies to everyone, instead it’s what is best (as in what is God’s calling) for you & your spouse. We have 4 kids, we are 32 (well I will be soon). We had our first when I was 24 (he just turned 25), we both finished grad school after that (I have a Ph.D., my husband just finished his MBA), & we managed to do alright šŸ‘ It worked for us because that was our calling. We are now discerning what God wants next for us!

I’d say pray & ask God to guide you as a couple to your calling! šŸ™‚

I had my first at 24 and my 4th at 35. I wouldn’t say that one age was better than the other. I am 43 and don’t feel like I am too old.

Things were tight when I was 24 and had my daughter, but there is always a way to make it work.

I have this question, too!

I’m engaged and we would really like to wait a few years before having a baby, because my fiance needs to finish college. We also need to work on our credit and spending habits (well, I need to work on MY spending habits.) I’ll be 24 and he’ll be 25 when we get married. Just like you, we would be okay with getting pregnant quickly, but it’s definitely not ideal. That’s mostly because there are so many unknowns with marriage. What will he and I be like when we live together? How will we handle money? Sex? Church? etc etc? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with waiting a few years after marriage because you’re using NFP. So will we, so I guess as long as you guys pray about it and follow the Holy Spirit, you’re good to go!

God Bless!

Keep in mind here, that I am 60, and never married. A grain of salt and all that.

But based on my observations and the child rearing experiences of other people I know, the best age to have children is when they are about 21, and ready to leave home. Remember, though, to change the locks when they leave, so they cannot get back in.

Hi Amy, as I had said in my original post, we have several friends that have had children up to and about your ages. There is not one of them that even remotely felt that they were too old. So, I’m in my 60s, and my youngest is just starting high school in September. The main difference I find is this: With my eldest at 13, we did more physical events, like more sports. With my youngest now, I’m nowhere near as active with her, but I bring something else. Just yesterday I realized that I’m able to give her a lot more wisdom in my love and presence to her. It’s very different than my eldest. But it’s good, really good. And I know that our friends feel the same way, -that the relationship is very different between the oldest and youngest when they were both teens. In many ways I miss not having a little one running around.

So, don’t worry. Remember, it’s God who has Ok’d your pregnancy. I suspect that He puts His full trust in your more ā€œseniorā€ self šŸ™‚ . Oh, and congratulations on being parents again. God’s many blessings.

šŸ™‚ Good one.

I can’t tell you what the best age to get married is, but I can tell you what I’m doing šŸ™‚

I’m 20 and getting married this August, we’ll have been engaged 5 months by the time we get married. We dated for what seems like FOREVER though, it was 3 years or so.

We plan on starting a family right after we get married, I’d like to have a while to figure out how my cycles work and everything so I guess i should start that right now.

My children are 13, 16 (those two adopted). 24 (stepdaughter), 34 and 36. I really enjoy all of them (most of the time) even though the two youngest have some issues. I’m 66, and I really wish I’d had more kids. It’s so much fun to have them around, and see how each individual one turns out. And I really believe it’s better for them to have more brothers and sisters.
But of course God has a plan for each of us, and discerning it is the best idea.

Hi MarCn, You quoted my post, but for some reason there are some ā€œextraā€ strange words in your quote of mine, that I did not put into my original post. Any ideas why?

You’ll never ā€œbe readyā€ for kids no matter what, so don’t freak out about everything not being perfect when your family begins.

Of course, it’s always good to have a stable financial situation as well as a mature mind and a strong relationship between the spouses is absolutely critical. If you can cover those bases, you’re in very good shape indeed. I’d say the spousal relationship and mental maturity is much more important than the financial situation, even though that is what most people fret about. Honestly, babies are not terribly expensive, just very time consuming. It’s when they get to school age that they become much more expensive… so just make sure you’ve got an attitude and skills to put you in line for promotion or a better paying job five years down the line.
