People always go on about his website. But why? He doesn’t seem to explain himself any better than many others, or have anything particularly interesting that is not found elsewhere? His theological explanations don’t seem particularly great.

Is there something else that makes him a great moral authority? Do they just like his hat?

He happens to be a staff apologist for Catholic Answers. Which is the host of this forum.

well I have a fondness for redheads
he has proven himself as a Catholic apologist in his writings, presentations, debates, and other contributions so many of us have come to rely on and trust what he gives us, something you cannot say about everyone in blogland. I am missing the social justice connection but will be pleased to be instructed.

I enjoy reading what Jimmy Akin has to say. He is very sharp apologist. :harp:

Very odd, I find the Catholic Answers apologists very good, but the website didn’t seem up to the same standard to me. Perhaps I’ll have to have another look.

I think it is his personal blog and not a professionally run website.

It’s a Sign of the Times that folks judge someone by their website 😃

Akins is an old-media guy; he appears on CA Radio, has a regular column in the Nat’l Catholic Reporter (the good NCR), does speaking tours and write books & magazine articles.

😊

I’m so embarrassed. Sigh.
LOL!
That was a catchphrase in our house when I was a kid, quoting Grover from Sesame Street.

Don’t be, btw. Nowadays Googling someone and taking a look at their site is how you get a quick impression of someone.

Fixed it for you. 😉

Not to mention that, here at CAF, we are an online community. We are already at our keyboards, looking for information. And, when Akin was more active with his blog, it wasn’t uncommon to see links to it posted in threads here.

Jimmy Akin is just cool, that is why! 😛
How many people do you know who like square dancing and sci fi and know about their faith?
As far as authority, not wanting to speak for Jimmy but his authority rests in the Church. He has opinions as every one else on things that do not deal with dogma/doctrine, but…he square dances!!!
😃

He speaks clearly in plain English without theological jargon. In other words, he provides some excellent answeres at the 101 level. If you want answers at the 305 course level, look elsewhere.

I like the fact that Jimmy answers the question in simple terms and then goes on to explain.
