What is the Catholic approach to transgenderism?

I really need advice… My nephew just let me know that he is transgender and wants to go through with hormones and surgery in the future to change from a man into a women… I personally don’t judge, but my mom being a very strict Catholic, wants to kick him out as she does not want to see this transgender transformation… I know it’s wrong in the eyes of the church, but I don’t want him on the streets… He is a good kid, not involved in drugs or partying… I just really would like some (name removed by moderator)ut on this matter… Thank you and God Bless
