What is the Catholic Church honestly doing for persecuted Christians around the world today?

What did the Early Church do for persecuted christians around the world? Did they start a war?

It is tiresome ad nauseum to ask for information on organizations that exist and then get responses that inevitably insinuate that we as laypeople or I personally am not doing enough. That is seriously counterproductive and speaks to a problem in our Catholic culture, not a strength. I am asking for information on groups specifically because no individual is an island and many individuals do not have the resources to start these desired orgs on their own.

Apparently my response, describing the person’s response as smug, was so wildly offensive that somebody had it flagged and taken down.

Due to my former response being thus removed, please proceed to observe how the entire point of my asking about organizations in existence is obviously related to my desire to help persecuted Christians in some form, and is in no way related to a need for anyone to reply that I personally must not be doing enough. Thank you.

I as an individual am not synonymous with the church. Your response does not answer my question.
You are an eye of the Church, and are telling the hands and feet that they are not doing their part?

We are all the Church. We are all obliged to live like it, not only those who are ordained.

Why then did you dismiss the information that was provided to you early in the thread (posts 3 and 4 if I am not mistaken) about what some organizations were doing. Your response to those seemed to indicate that the work they were doing was not what you wanted. So is it helping the people who are affected in some way, or is it doing exactly what you want done, whatever that is?

Not really that amazing. A simple confusion on my part as to which post was a reply to which other post. The sequence was confusing, but ultimately it was an error, which any human is capable of. Right?

If you check out CNEWA, they are a papal mandated agency that does a lot of work with Christians in the Near East. I support them.

Thank you! I appreciate this information 😊

He’s asking if the institution known colloquially as “The Church” has apostolates that are dealing with issues such as Christians persecuted in Sudan, China and the Middle East. While it’s nice to encourage him to try to involve himself directly, it might be more helpful to tell him about existing apostolates he can support as it’s rather obvious that what he’s interested in doing.

Not everyone feels they can just start something or even has a clue what they might be able to do to help in an area of interest. Not everyone is a born leader or understands logistics or has the resources or knowledge and ability to acquire them. Or perhaps he’s not interested in reinventing the wheel, but rather looking for someone who has a wheel that he can help roll.

I admire the work of Voice of the Martyrs, a “nondenominational”
The vast majority of persecuted Christians are NOT non denominational. Most of them are Oriental Orthodox or Eastern Catholic.

Don’t forget that 1/4 of all hospitals and charity work in Africa is run by the Catholic Church.

Before you ask what the Church is doing for persecuted Christians, remember that Catholics ARE many of the persecuted Christians.

I know that many or most persecuted Christians aren’t nondenominational, but Voice of the Martyrs is, to my knowledge.

ok I have been thinking about this a bit.

There is so much going on underground, it would be quite dangerous to out it. One example would be the underground Churches in China.

Another, I was listening to a Cardinal who grew up in a Communist country that outlawed Catholicism and also of course its Masses. These people, and he was a child at the time, all meet in secret to celebrate Mass. The environments were quite dangerous.

There is a lot that goes on in Indonesia and the Phillipines where people quietly go about getting Christians out of hot spots, rescuing trafficked people and the like.

Then there are the situations in a few African countries at the moment.

We must pray for all these people.
I think we tend to find out a long time after the event, when it is safe to talk about experiences or heroic acts.

The USCCB has a whole page on this, including a list of recommended aid organizations you can donate to (most of which have already been mentioned here) and other resources and discussion about how you can help persecuted Christians in the Middle East.

I know that local parishes around here have had fund drives specifically to help displaced, persecuted Christians, particularly in the Middle East.
