My name is Bentem, Douglas Mark from Nigeria. Im a practicing and dedicated catholic, A C C R and a Legionary. My point of confussion now is that i have fiancee which by the grace of God i shall plan taken her to the alter soon. we are both practicing real Catholic faith for three years in the courtship and i have taken her for the best. Now my Genotype is AS. What if hers is AS, Do i have to go ahead and marry her or let her go ?, and we have already welcom her into the family, it is now if not her no body. (that is my family saying), but no body knows what i have just found out about me be:confuseding AS.
By right i am a social counselor cos i am a Social Worker by proffession from the University of Calabar, Calabar Niger. Do i have to recncile faith with academic ?.

Dear Bentem,

I think you want a word other than “academics”. But I think I understand what you are basically asking.

The Church does not require that people must marry even though they have spent time in courtship. They are allowed to change their minds and not marry.

As to her genotype, you need to get some concrete information from someone skilled in the field of genetics. You might begin with your medical doctor. Determining whether to marry a person or not should not be determined by a “what if?”. You are in our prayers.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
