What is the Catholic position on being "saved"?

Many Protestant churches (including all Evangelical churches) place great emphasis on the personal decision to be “saved”. There seems to be a divide in the churches I’ve attended between those who are “saved” and those who are not.

What is the Catholic position on this issue?
