What is the catholic position on--

End times?

Does the RCC take a position on this? Has the Vatican studied this out and give clear teaching on end times?

Or is the answer just Christ is coming back?

If possible, can I have an official catholic answer:thumbsup:

That is such an interesting question. I left the Catholic Church when I was a teenager, and spent more than 30 years in a cult that was very end-of-the-world oriented, even setting dates. It’s so interesting coming back to the Catholic Church that although Christ’s second coming is definitely taught, there is no emphasis put on when Christ will return. And I have come to the conclusion that the reason for this, as strange as it may sound, is that we as Catholics have Christ in the Eucharist. No other Christian religion, or any religion, has access to our Saviour as we do, in Catholic tabernacles throughout the world. He is always with us. But I think that the reason Protestants are so focused on when He will return is because they don’t have the Eucharist.

We have so much to be thankful for in the Catholic Church. Take it from someone who was on the outside for far too long.

I had taken a hiatus as well.
I’m just starting to visit more often again.

While some of the discussions get out of hand (charitably speaking), for the most part they are good.

I see it as good exercise for everyone involved, regardless of faith affiliation.

Thank you for your comments. I do believe in studying the end times because quite simply God gave us the info. BUT I do not believe we should study it to try and figure out when exactly it will happen. I mean that is absurd simply because we are told we will not know when it will happen.😉

What is interesting is the description of how it is going to happen and in what sequence–not the when.

God seemed to think it important for us to read Revelation and heed what it says in Revelation 1:3 we are told that those who read and heed the book get a blessing. So I guess it is important for us to at least study it–now understanding it all is a seperate matter.:eek:

Im glad to hear you got out of whoever you were with. I would say whenever people try to put a date on Christ’s return–I would run from them too.😉
 
Very simply - if you knew the world was going to end in half an hour what would you do differently?

If you would be doing ANYTHING significantly different from what you’re doing right now then you’re not practicing your faith as you should.

There is one certainty for all of us - that is our own death and particular judgement. I’d be willing to make a sizeable bet that for at least most of us that will occur well before the Second Coming.

So spend your time and energy on what you can control, not on idle speculation about the Second Coming. Seriously.

Why do you think that God gave us Revelation and then told us that whoever read and heeded what was in the book would be blessed?

I believe there are lessons to be learned about the end times. I am currently studying Revelation and it is hard but will be worth it in the end. I believe it will make my relationship with Christ stronger.😉

I would agree that one should not consume their life with specualtion on end times. However, I do not think one needs to speculate though–just read Revelation and you get an eye full of what is going to happen.:eek: 😉

You do know that an awful lot of Revelation is about John’s own times? For example, Babylon was pagan Rome, the Beast was a reference to Nero (the number you get when you add the letters of his name up is 666) and so on.

So - we don’t even know that it WAS primarily meant as prophecy - or at least not about end times, could have been about coming persecutions for Christians of his era. That nonetheless, like Paul’s letters, still resonate for us today, as the Church is persecuted in EVERY age. Ending with a simple reminder that Christ will ultimately triumph in spite of all.

Have you studied Revelation or Daniel? Just curious;)

I do believe John was speaking to actual churches as they did exist and some still do. I also believe there was prophecy within those 7 letters to the churches.

I have not finished my study so I cant comment too much.😉
