What is the Catholic understanding of the Battle of Armageddon?

Correct. John presents the war as already won, by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

Revelation is a complex book, deliberately written to be understandable only to its intended audience, and one often used to justify the wildest “predictions” of the future. Without Revelation and amateurish interpretations of it, half the supermarket tabloids would be blank.😃
And LeHay and company would not be rolling in $Bucks$.

I do not remember where I heard it, but my understanding is that the 1000 year reign from Jerusalem refers to the present state of affairs. Christ rules the world from the Church. The number 1000, however, needs to be understood symbolically as an emphasized use of 1, which is the symbol of unity and of God. So, I suppose it amounts to a long period of time, the length of which God only knows.

Hence, the passage says that Christ will rule through the Church, for as long as God sees fit, so that as many may be saved as possible.

Pax Christi nobiscum.

Go to germ atria for your answer.Rev. takes numbers from gem atria.
Then
1000 SIGNIFIES (SEE STRONG’S’ CONCORDANCE) HEBREW = MYRIAD in NUMBER
503 -------From 505 to make thousandfold,- bring forth thousands
505--------- thousand.------------------------------------------------------------------
7231 (comp.of 4241) increase , ESP. in number; also (as denom . from 7233 ) to multiply by the myriad : increase , by many (-fold), be more, multiply ,ten thousands.x ten thousands.
multi. myriad number.
Interp.this is out of Revelations brakes the rule in Rev.22/18 walt2000

“Here is Wisdom. Let him that hath understanding COUNT the number of the beast: For it is the number of MAN; and his number is six hundred threescore and six.”
How do people who say it’s improper to interpret spiritual significance in numbers, get around this verse? Do they turn to the right hand and to the left to avoid it, or simply ignore it all together? We cannot do that, we must put God’s commands in our hearts as a permanent fixture, that we might not sin against Him (Ps 119:11). Perhaps then the Spirit of God will cause some to take down that wall of Spiritual ignorance and start listening to the Word, and not man’s conclusions. It says count the number six hundred and sixty six! When many are told that, they often reply with something like, “Oh, that’s talking about a computer debit card, or a mark to be electronically scanned on the skin”, or some other “flavor of the month” interpretation. But when you query, “please direct me to the scripture where it indicates that,” they suddenly don’t like the subject anymore. They don’t want to hear that because they have no real scriptural basis for saying it. There are “only” two ways to understand scripture. The right way of understanding it by searching it out “in” scripture, and the wrong way of coming to some conclusion based on our own understanding or what “seems” right in our own eyes. Shall We call God a numerologist because He commands us to count this number in scripture, and he tells us that it is the number of man? Is He telling us to dabble in Numerology? Of course not! What He is telling us here (in plain language) is to count the number that He has placed there. Search the scriptures to find exactly what “He” means by the number when counted. That is how those who have wisdom and understanding count the number and come to the truth of scripture. It doesn’t go unnoticed that God says here is wisdom, let he who has understanding count it! God knows everyone does not have the spiritual understanding (for it is God who gives it) and that everyone will not receive what His Word says. But He also knows that His people are wise to things Spiritual, because He has given them that spiritual discernment (1st Corinthians 2:14-16).

I am Catholic and don’t know the answer to this question. Will anyone help me?
Well hopefully their understanding of this includes Israel, because this is what the scriptures say. After all, the scriptures were written by Israelis and the Messiah himself is Israeli. The Messiah Jesus will return to Israel as, well, the Israeli Messiah.

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the memorials of the righteous, and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’ Thus you bear witness against yourselves that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets; now fill up what your ancestors measured out! You serpents, you brood of vipers, how can you flee from the judgment of Gehenna? Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and pursue from town to town, so that there may come upon you all the righteous blood shed upon earth, from the righteous blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.Amen, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her young under her wings, but you were unwilling! Behold, your house will be abandoned, desolate. (Mt 23:29-38)

*Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say: “You are just, O Holy One, who are and who were, in passing this sentence. For they have shed the blood of the holy ones and the prophets, and you (have) given them blood to drink; it is what they deserve.” * (Rev 16:5-6)

Can we have some commentary on what point you are making with these scriptures?

Sure. Sorry. It’s coded language for Jesus’ judgment of the Temple Jews.

Mount Megiddo between ancient Samaria and Galilee, also know as "Armageddon, was where the Titus gathered his Roman troops. From there he pushed into the siege that eventually destroyed the Temple.

The code-name “Egypt” for Jerusalem is used to bring up the memory of the events surrounding (2 Kings 23:29) In his time Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, went up toward the river Euphrates to the king of Assyria. King Josiah set out to confront him, but was slain at Megiddo at the first encounter.

This imagery was obvious to the those reading Revelation. King Josiah the spiritual reformer in Judah was killed doing battle with Egypt. Later Egypt was destroyed by Babylon.

Jesus the spiritual reformer was killed by the Temple Jews (“Egypt”) who were later destroyed by the Romans (who gathered at Megiddo).

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

Your trying to push a past event, in to a future happening ,it will not work.
Why is it that people insist on trying to confuse, and complicate the issue? remember Re.22/18.no wonder this has been lost since John wrote it.

I’m not trying to push those events in the future. Those verses were fulfilled almost 2,000 years ago. It is not for me to say if history will repeat itself.

What would you like to know about me Walt? I’m 34 with a wife and a 15 year old daughter. I’m Catholic and I live in Wisconsin.

Peace,

Ryan 🙂
