What is the Catholic view on Mormons?

I have been visited by Mormons numerous times, telling me to read the BOM and that if I pray on it, I will know it is true. They tell me an apostasy occurred after the original apostles died and that Joseph Smith was given authority to restore Christ’s original church. What does this mean, and how do I defend my faith when encountering them? They seem to have an answer to everything.
