From Press Release by Steven Fishman, April 28, 1994

The Church of Scientology vehemently wants to keep these levels secret because the more mystery there is attached to them, the more money they can charge in “fixed donations.” They also do not want the press and the media to rationally look at their product – schizophrenia inducing science fiction which utilizes demonic exorcism techniques. They do not want their celebrities to know the contents of these levels, or they would no longer endorse Scientology. Without the cloak of mystery and secrecy, parishoners who have not been exposed to the levels would see the fraud in it and leave the Church in droves. Church executives know this and they are frantic about the court’s decision. They fear the inevitable – an educated consumer.

After all, don’t Tom Cruise, Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, Demi Moore, and Priscilla Presley have a right to know what lies ahead for each of them in pursuit of Scientology? The court feels they have a right to know.

The public domain is the most important forum we have as a free society. The public’s right to awareness supersedes the Church executives’ right to secrecy. Scientologists also have the freedom of choice in knowing what is in store for them at the end of the “bridge.” It is up to every one of us to respect and stand up for the sanity of others. After all, if a religion is truly workable, it can withstand the scrutiny of the truth. No religion has a right to suppress that.

Now that the upper level materials are finally unsealed, people are finally free to make up their own minds about the “effectiveness” of Scientology.

Freedom of choice is inherent in religious freedom. Secrecy and covert mental manipulation is not.

That the United States District Court has both recognized and acknowledged this proves that there truly is justice, even when it is attacked and opposed by the Church of Scientology.

Respectfully Submitted,

I honestly don’t think that the Church of Scientology is keeping the OT levels “secret” so as to get more money. I really think that people overemphasize the money situation of Scientology. You can do co-auditing, and if you become an Auditor(the preferred way up the Bridge in Scientology, where you receive training in auditing as well as “processing”(receiving auditing).), you will receive auditing for free if you audit others.

Also, I place Scientology in the realm of other mystery religions/practices. There is certain knowledge/or practices that are known by a certain group of people, not the general public, for various reasons. Only after you are properly prepared do you receive this knowledge. I see nothing wrong with this. This also places Scientology in the realm of various Eastern religions, as they have similar beliefs on this. In general, Western religions don’t have mystery traditions in this respect. Also, all Scientologists know which “grade” they’re on, as well as every single grade that is on what we call the “Bridge to Total Freedom”, including Introductory Courses, various “routes”, as well as where they can engage in each grade. So, I don’t think the “secrecy” part is that big of an issue.

Thetan << Thanks for your thoughts again, and Phil, I’m looking forward to the results of your research on the origins of those tapes. >>

All right, no problem, we’ll see what I find out. For myself, I couldn’t get involved in Scientology since all the evidence points to it being an anti-Christian religion. But you’re right, I’ve never actually attempted to be E-Metered or anything. I did take their online personality test (200 questions) and passed with flying colors. 😃

for anybody who might be wondering re:scientology. what this is not is a ‘religlion.’ L. Ron Hubbard, a lesser known sc-fi author divised a theory of how the mind has a untapped series of ‘doors’ to greater mental skill. Mr. Hubbard (who died in 1974) had no degrees in any field of medicne but claimed to have wittnessed native shamans in southeast asia (where he served in ww II) having the ability to self-cure illness and the like. approx, 1968, having not made much of dent in the sc-fi world, Hubbard wrote “dyanentics-the science of the mind.” this was extended into scientology. now, to sidestep the taxes on the profits on this book, Mr. Hubbard, created the “Church of Scientology.” In the U.S, it has both First Amemdment and tax-exempt status.
Outside the U.S. this theory is treated either as a self-help subject, or in Germany, for example, Scientolgy is banned from that country and is classifed as a 'non-religious cult."
For all Christians, this is a serious problem. Well known U.S. Scientolgists in the entertainment industry present this as a harmless form of self-improvement. In fact, Scientolgists, dismiss Christianity, or traditional religions, as a ‘block to awareness’ and claim that by using their system of ‘unblocking’ you create your own universe, your own reality and that you are God. If the New Age Movement has a theology this is it. Last thought, self promotion and becoming famous and wealthy are part of this as well. If you doubt me you having been watching tv lately.
My wife is taking a course in Enviromental Science and gave me a piece of info on what Karl Marx believes. “The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is a demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions.” Any similarities?

God Bless

tctexas << Mr. Hubbard (who died in 1974) had no degrees in any field of medicne but claimed >>

BTW, Hubbard died in January 1986. Make sure you get your facts right.

tctexas << approx, 1968, having not made much of dent in the sc-fi world, Hubbard wrote “dyanentics-the science of the mind.” >>

Dianetics was published in 1950. But 1968 is when Hubbard came up with the story of Xenu (or Xemu). So you’re close. 😃

Don’t worry, I put all the main facts on Scientology here:

Catholicism, Scientology, and L. Ron Hubbard

Type “Catholicism and Scientology” in Google in one month this article will be #1. It happens to all my articles hooray!
