Some time ago someone asked about the veracity of creationism opposed to evolution. I’d pronounce the response oblique, consonant to it’s assertion the two are not interrelated but residing in different realms with no conflict. An interesting TV ministry I saw, Creation On The Web, explored this, explaining that both disciplines are mutually exclusive and that the Christian ethos will stand or utterly collapse on the veracity of evolutionary theory and Darwinism. The fact that dinosaur fossils exist showing clear empirical evidence of disease coupled with the theory of a millions of years old earth is incompatible with the idea of God’s creation of a world for Adam and Eve that “was good”. Apropos to this reasoning, the idea of a very old earth with sabre toothed tigers ripping apart unfortunates before the time of Adam And Eve and organisms suffering disease, a reasonable person would pronouce incompatible with the idea of God’s perfect creation. Death and disease could only come about AFTER the fall in the garden of eden according to the faith. Creation On The Web grapples with this outlining numerous scientific ideas rationally challenging the veracity of evolutionary theory and espousing a case for a young earth theory as the Bible says. As a practising Catholic may I ask what is the church’s position on the supposed contradiction between evolution and the story of creation?
