I was recently listening to a speaker who speaks about the biblical gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues (sounds like gibberish, not “each understood them in his own tongue”) and healing. They insist that everyone can pray for and receive any of these gifts. They also are very emphatic about the charismatic movement in general.
I was always taught that these people were frauds, in need of serious physchological help, or in desperate need of an official exorcist. However, I was wondering, does the Catholic Church have an official stance on this movement? Is it real or are these people accidentally dealing with demons or overworking their own imaginations? How seriously should I take their claims?
