What is the Church's teaching on guardian angels?

What is the Church’s belief and teaching on guardian angels? I have heard that all faithful have one (?), and I know as I review many touchy situations in my life, I certainly feel I have one that has looked out for me and protected me, but would like to know how to get to “know” mine better and the circumstances about praying to them. Thank you.
