What is the Church's Teaching on Mary Magdalene Being A Prostitute?

A Protestant friend is trying to argue that the Church officially taught that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute according to Scripture, and that the Church has changed it’s position on this. Can you please clarify what the Church taught in the past, and what is the real explanation behind this so-called change? Thank you for your time.
