What is the Church's teaching on suicide?

I need to know how Cannon Law feels about suicide.

I had a friend that commented suicide because hope had expired, he was devoured with cancer and the pain was too much, he was in his 70’s and I’m afraid that God will not tolerate this act. I hope that’s not the case.
