What is the correct story of St. Valentine?

I am an assistant teacher at a Catholic school and the children are learning about St. Valentine. However, two of the stories they have heard are somewhat different. One tells about how he was like a doctor and greatly cared for those who depended on him. Another story says that he helped couples get married in secret. Although both these stories explain that he went to jail…there are different versions to why he was put in jail. Where can I find accurate information about St. Valentine? Or are these all things that he has done?
