My priest said that there was some difference between Roman Catholic and Anglo Saxon Catholic. And also that most of the people in our country are Anglo Saxon not Roman. Is this true? Can you explain the difference.

Hi BE,

I don’t know what he is thinking of. Most Catholics in the United States are Roman Catholics. They belong to the Roman rite. Maronite Catholics are not Roman Catholics because they belong to the Maronite rite even though they are in union with Rome. This is true of Chaldean Catholics who belong to the Chaldean rite and all the other Catholics who belong to eastern rites and yet are under Rome.

The are some Anglicans who call themselves Anglo Catholics. But they are not in union with Rome and, strictly speaking, are not Catholics at all.
