What is the difference between these 2 offices

Hello everyone

i just got This office in the mail today. but then i saw this one and was wondering why mine was only about 200 pages while the other is 3 volumes! i know that the the shorter one only has prime sext and compline i dont thnk it makes that huge of a difference.

Read what Baronius’s contains. It has a LOT of stuff in it. Read that list.
 
Yours is abreiviated. The other is the complete Office with all of the readings. There are several versions. I use the “Christian Prayer” version from Catholic Book Publishing Co. and it is a one volume, but still not the entire Divine Office. (also known as The Liturgy of The Hours)

I use the Christian Prayer also. It is the book a lot of lay person’s use. The 3 volume set is mostly used by priests and each book covers different seasons and all of the complete readings.

It is a huge difference. The Angelus Press Divine Office is a good tool for the laity to get acquainted with the Breviary. It was created for the laity to join in the public recitation of the Office. The three hours typically prayed in common are Prime, Sext, and Compline. The value of this version of the Divine Office is that it provides the chanting notation for both simple and solemn tones, as well as the seasonal variations in the chanting of the offices.

The next graduation towards a more complete Breviary is the Diurnale which has all of the (1962) hours except for Matins and is contained in one volume.

And finally, of course, the full berviary which contains all offices as well as all feast days and the Office of the Dead.
