I read or have heard the Dominican friars use the Dominican rite, what does this mean?

Do they have a different Mass from the Roman NO mass?

Ive been to a domincan Mass and it didnt seem any different,it was a weekday Mass not Sunday though,i dont know if its different on Sundays

The Dominican Order today has and is still using the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite Mass since it was promulgated following the Second Vatican Council.

In the preconciliar church many usages of the Roman Rite existed and were seen, one of which was the Dominican usage. The Dominican usage has its own Missal (EF) and chant propers.

Ever since the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum there has been a clamoring by the faithful of all capacities to move forward in the Church with the way our forefathers and ancestors worshipped liturgically. Thus today we see a resurgence and reintroduction of the Mass in the traditional forms which mutually enrich the eucharistic liturgies commonly celebrated today.

Awesome! I have been looking for a nice traditional Dominican Rite video. 👍

Just from watching a little of the video, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of genuflections.

Dominicans are also known as “The Order of Preachers” They have good parish missions.

The Dominican Rite is one of several usages that some religous orders have(Carmelite, Carthusian, Premonstratensian, Cistercian, etc) besides some old diocesan Masses. It is interesting to read about the differences.
The Dominican Rite has a single offetory, and a few prayers are not there that are in the Roman Rite. Still very beautiful and ancient. Also, their Holy Week is a bit shorter in parts, particularly the lessons on Holy Saturday.
Until recently, the Dominican Rite was said daily in Connecticut. Pray one day it is brought back to its full vigor.

The Westrn Province of the Dominicans has permission by their Superior to say the Dominican Rite. It is said frequently at Holy Rosary in Portland, Oregon and at Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorge, Alaska.
