What is the Fourth Joyful Mystery?

As a child my father would lead us in the Rosary once a year in Holy Week.

He gave it a name that I have never heard since in Irish/English colonised countries.

Does anyone else here come from a tradition that names this mystery other than “The Presentation”.

Apologies, not trying to be cute, I just didnt want to influence contributions.

No he didnt call it the Sacrifice in the Temple, nor the Purification, he called it The Circumcision.

That of course is a conflation of two completely different events. It was not in the temple but likely at Bethlehem one month earlier. Nothing wrong with that, ifs just I have never seen it done since.
I was wondering if my father was confused or he learnt it wrongly.

I am aware thaf medieval art used to intertwine the two events. Circumcision, unlike the Presentation, was not a popular theme, nevertheless when executed often included the temple or High Priest.

Nor am I sure what mystery either name honours. Perhaps the prophecy.

Calling it the Circumcision is an old German -French thing. It’s traditional, your dad is not confused. Im pretty sure i have seen an old rosary meditation book calling it that too.

Actually the Circumcision would have happened 8 days after birth and the Presentation 40 days later. But they are both honored in the mystery together according to the Vatican discussion of it.

I find it interesting myself that a Joyful Mystery is also a Sorrow of Mary, because Jesus’ blood spilled for the first time when he was circumcised and it was prophecied that a sword would pierce Mary’s heart. Not real joyful. I can see why the Joyful Mystery part focuses on Simeon and Anna’s joy and the happy part of the prophecy.

I find it interesting myself that a Joyful Mystery is also a Sorrow of Mary, because Jesus’ blood spilled for the first time when he was circumcised and it was prophecied that a sword would pierce Mary’s heart. Not real joyful. I can see why the Joyful Mystery part focuses on Simeon and Anna’s joy and the happy part of the prophecy.
