What do you think is the greatest classical music peice(I hate that term, I feel like a snob using it but “song” does not fit)?

I have to say Canon is the best. Although Eine Kleine Nacht Musik is not far behind.

Tales From the Vienna Wood, by Johann Strauss and Kill the Wabbit, by Wagner

Which Canon?

Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos is one choice. But there are several. This is a rather subjective question I should think.

I’m going to guess he means Pachelbel’s canon, which is actually quite lame.

I’d say Beethoven’s 7th Symp. However, I am more and more drawn to pre-1650 (circa) music. 😃

Scot,

That would be my guess as well and yes it is rather lame but good for sleep.

I do love Rimski Korzokof and Mozart and Schubert and Bach, Brahms, Beethoven and even Wagner…where does one end?

I love your signature line but haven’t figured out how to add one myself. 'Where should I go to find out that info?

Pachalbel’s

I would say anything by Mozart is good too.

…I had to put this up there. I couldn’t resist! 😛
Actually i think the Lone Ranger Theme is pretty cool too! 😛 …Seriously, I’m just joshing here but to make a point. Classical music to be ‘dumbed down’ to common status is to use it in cartoons and tv themes.
If it weren’t for my brother, I wouldn’t have somewhat an appreciation for classical music. Yet, classical music, since there is no words, seems to be the most purest form of music…less suggestivity to it and no lyrics with double meanings!

One time there was nothing on tv that I cared to watch, except the movie “Amadeus” I thought “Oh well. If I don’t like it, I can turn it off”
I proceeded to watch it over and over and over. Bought the tape, bought the soundtrack…LOVE the music, and all because I didn’t have a “thing to watch”!

The Halleluiah Chorus - Handel, by far

My second favorite is the 1812 overture, performed with artillary

I don’t think using classical music in this manner dumbs it down, I think producers use classical music in this manner partly because people recognize quality, and partly because it’s public domain.
