The “crowning” if weather permits is done at an outside statue of Mary, if there is one.
A procession may occur at a weekend Mass of people of all ages, but I am most familiar with such a devotion when I was young, in Catholic school.
There is no obligation for you to participate in this devotion.
It’s icing on the cake (something extra) , if you already have a daily devotion to Mary of any sort. It’s very symbolic. I don’t think we can possibly add any glory to Mary that God has not already given her. It doesn’t change God or Mary. It may deepen your faith to dwell on Marian dogmas of the Church.
God chose Mary as a “vessel” for the incarnation of His Son. Marian dogmas reflect back on God’s glory.
