What is the May Crowning?

This is my first May as a full Catholic, and I’m seeing these things around about crowning statues of Mother Mary at the beginning of May. I have two small statues of her, one a rosary holder. What goes into her May Crowning and what is used as a crown?

The Month off May is always decided too Our Lady,many churches have May Crowing were they have a procession and then they Crow her and sing,s hymns,and pray ,s ,to show we love her… May is decide-ed too Our Lady and always will. Amen.

The “crowning” if weather permits is done at an outside statue of Mary, if there is one.

A procession may occur at a weekend Mass of people of all ages, but I am most familiar with such a devotion when I was young, in Catholic school.

There is no obligation for you to participate in this devotion.

It’s icing on the cake (something extra) , if you already have a daily devotion to Mary of any sort. It’s very symbolic. I don’t think we can possibly add any glory to Mary that God has not already given her. It doesn’t change God or Mary. It may deepen your faith to dwell on Marian dogmas of the Church.

God chose Mary as a “vessel” for the incarnation of His Son. Marian dogmas reflect back on God’s glory.
