What is the meaning of "cf"?

I copied and posted some verses for a non-catholic friend and they asked me what the cf meant in regards to (cf Luke #:#).
Does anyone know what that cf stands for? I see it on most of the Catholic websites I visit

“Cf” simply means “confer.” On is to confer with a particular text.
