What is the most important thing to say to/understand about an ex-Catholic Jehovah's Witness?

I recently had a conversation with a “door-to-door” Jehovah’s witness who, after I spoke to him awhile, told me he was an ex-Catholic. I don’t know why he left the church, although he did say he left the church but he didn’t leave God… My question is this: what are their basic beliefs, and what do they believe is wrong about the Catholic faith? I didn’t feel quite capable of “debating” with him because I don’t know where he stands, other than the fact that he did make it clear that no Jehovah’s witness would ever engage in war (that struck a nerve because one of my sons just graduated from basic training for the Army National Guard. I hastily told him that no one wants to fight in a war, but some are justified.) I told him that I would read his literature if he would read mine. He agreed so I gave him my copy of Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn. I am hoping that I get the opportunity to speak with him again (he was shocked that I talked to him in the first place!) and I want to be more prepared, so any info you can give me would be helpful! Thanks so much! Kathy
