What is the most right wing opinion you can hold without being “far right”?

For example, is being against abortion a far right opinion?

We need a definition of what far-right even means, because I have see pretty left-leaning/centrist people be called far right.

I figured. To mean, it seems far right just means “further right than me” or even “person whose opinions I don’t like.”

Would it be far right to say that slavery existed in the Americas before Columbus?

Both questions you raised, it seems to me are objective statements that are true, false or indifferent. They both appear to be orthogonal to any right, left, forward, backward, up or down label.

Just my opinion, of course.

That’s interesting because I took the second example from Candace Owens, who is regularly labelled far right.

Of course it could be something else she said.

Ahhh. Maybe you are falling into the trap of thinking every statement person x utters is a reflection of their political orientation. It isn’t.

I think what OP is referring to is how some statements, whether they are factual true or not, tend to get dismissed pretty quickly because they are considered far-right/far-left talking points and make the person saying them seem far-right/far-left.

Like I have said earlier, I have heard of and seen pretty centrist/left-leaning people be called far-right. This is because they have used arguments most commonly associated with right-wing politics.

Being against abortion is a human rights issue.

I am against labels such as left or right.

We should be for Catholic values and should be against the spirit of the world.

Depends

Those who say it usually have a hidden agenda behind those words.

It’s like used as justification for the genocide of the Native Americans and usually by white supremacists who identify as far right.

What I am really hoping for is for some brave leftist to step forward and say honestly where the line lies.

The older I get, I get more curmudgeonly about politics.

I now am getting to despise it.

Yes. Where is the point at which someone is not just right-wing, but far right? Is racism the line for example?

I am not sure how you think you will get a fair answer fro someone on the left. That’s like asking a Yankees fan what they think of the Red Sox. 😉

Not understanding how you choose racism as a line. Do you think the left is incapable of racism or something?

Labels mean nothing because there are too many variables in the interpretation.

Actually Im assuming that on a Catholic forum there are people I disagree with politically but who will nevertheless give me a fair answer as to what they honestly think is the limit of reasonableness.

I can set an example the other way round. I think you are far left if you believe that expressing Conservative opinions should be banned by law.

Ha! You haven’t ventured very far into the World News forum yet then, have you? 😳
