I’ve been reading up that most people believe Hinduism is actually the oldest. I however believe Catholism, being founded by Jesus Christ himself and prophesized by the descendants of Abraham, not to mention Adam and Eve, are seen in all religions, so would it not be safe to say that Adam and Eve saing they are created by god as the first man and women, might be correct. What religion do you believe is oldest and why? What proof is there in history?

Can you explain or re-phrase the part of your post I bolded? It does not make any sense.

As for the last part of your question, Are you kidding me??

It depends on whether one goes strictly by archaeological findings or by the Genesis accounts. The faith of Adam and Eve would be the oldest, according to Genesis. Religion means tie, so the relationship between God and man is religion, whether it is formally defined or not.

The non-Jews in ancient Sumeria, Ur/modern Iraq, had the story of Adam and Eve…may not the same names but similar.

The ancient Jews drew on these stories to ask questions of who man is, where did he come from, where was he going? It is said as well there were other monolithic faiths.

The Jewish calendar is over 5,600 years old. The Chinese’ as a peoples’ is not quite that old.

I think the ancient stories reflect not so much a particular religion, but common humanity questioning its own existence and how it came about…parallel to people concerned about pagans vs being human beings.

I would say Animism if one is using the archelogical and fossil records. If the Biblical account I would say Deism focusing on God as was known of Him in the OT. Since theangels worshipped God before the creation of humans I think that would be clear which came first.

St. Paul said all mankind is able to discern God through nature…perhaps this aspect of our creation as humans makes us predisposed to see the Higher…

What I was saying about Adam and Eve is most religions in some way speak of them, sometimes with a diffrent name but they are referenced. Does this clarify this for you?

this is the corner stone for hindu beliefs… At least from my not so in depth search of it…

Yes.

Now, I’ll ask you to sorta do what your fellow apologists ask protestants to do.

can you trace back and unbroken line of belief in these 2 people, and if so how far back can you go?😉

In terms of organization, i suspect Zoroastrianism and Hinduism are the oldest. Maybe some Egyptian cults could qualify too. Other cultures existed before Israel, and indeed some other world religions predate Judaism and Christianity when it comes to recorded history.

As Christians we believe that God is the Beginning and End, and indeed transcends time. The question probably needs reworded.

I,ll say Jewish

I would say seeking reflections on the higher plane is what makes us human…and made in the image of God…

Easy… it goes back to Adam (Peace be upon him)… he surrendered himself completely to the will of God so essentially his religion was Islam…

So did every prophet and messenger who was appointed by God Almighty… Even Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Jacob, Jonah, Solomon, Noah etc (peace be upon them) all of them submitted themselves to the will of ONE TRUE GOD without associating rivals to him…

In essence, it means that worshipping one God alone and not saying he has sons or daughters is what surrendering to his will is… the arabic meaning of Islam means ‘Submission’, in this instance, submission to the will of God…

That being the case, Islam was the religion of Adam, Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Jacob, Jonah, Noah, David, Ezra, etc (Peace be upon all of them), it is the world’s oldest religion… 🙂

And yet historically Islam as a religion only arose with Muhammad.

Id say that depending on whether you count the historical vedic religion as synonymous with contemporary hinduism the oldest established recognisable organised contemorary religion would either be Zoroastrianism or Hinduism.

However id say in the manner of worshipping God as God, id say that, that is timeless.

Nature has imprinted upon the minds of all the idea of God. Everyone has looked upwards in contemplation of Him, and so Religion in the minds of man is a timeless phenomenon back into our prehistory.

Which sounds more reasonable to you…

Worshipping God the way you want to worship him
OR
Worshipping God the way he wants you to worship him

SO the Question is HOW do we worship God? All those great prophets of God told their people how to worship God the way God wants to be worshipped…

Islam is not a new religion to the world… Muhammad (Peace be upon him) delivered the same message as Jesus (PBUH) did and so did the prophets before thetime of Jesus (PBUH)

However the point of this thread is for people to acknowledge which religion they think is the historically, universally, understood, eldest contemporary religion.

Whatever your view on the subject Islam is acknowledged universally from a non theological doctrinal perspective to have come into being as it is recognised today on the advent of muhammads teaching. So in that context i am correct in stating that Islam was not the first religion. After all theological contexts are subjective depending on which religion one adheres too.

It’s really impossible to determine what the “oldest” religion is because, since our brains have been developed enough human beings have had their own spiritual views on the world, and obviously the first human being with religious belief’s wasn’t part of any officially established or widespread religion that can be possibly recognized today. One might argue that the oldest religion is say, Hinduism, but this doesn’t take into account the faiths all sorts of smaller populations of people (Native Americans, Austrailian Aborigines, etc.) who’ve probably been practicing their faith much longer then Hinduism.

If Jesus (PBUH) was infinite then why:
-Was he limited to a human body
-Why did he ask for God’s help
-did he die?
-did he eat food to live (so as to be dependent on food for his survival)
-did only a few (disciples) followed him and why he could not make the entire children of Israel become his followers?
