Youāve made some very good points here, in that its nearly impossible for 100% of all Americans to share one common characteristic⦠But Iāve been brainstorming, and Iāve studied a few things on how common characteristics of nations can changeā¦Living closer to a Starbucks.
But to the real point of the thread, in order to have a national character, it is not necessary for 100% of people to share it. In fact itās nearly impossible for that to happen anywhere.
And for a country founded on (among other things) liberty, itās not only impossible for 100% of people to share the same characteristic, itās not even desirable.
In any case, a national character is by its nature difficult to describe, and even more difficult to distil into āone and only thing.ā
Besides that, the one and only thing would hardly be unique to people in the US, and if being unique to the US isnāt a qualification, Iām going with:
Weāre all subject to the laws of gravity. (Yes, even astronauts, because it is not necessary to feel the effects of gravity in order to be subject to its laws.) Actually, Iāll go further than that and say that we are all subject to all of the relevant laws of physics.

ā¦And Iāve come up with a solutionā¦!
There needs to be a āGreat American Jubileeāā¦! Yes, it will be a Christian āCelebration of Humanityā in America, which will break the current monopoly of American political and national āHolidaysā, and install a new Christian week-long celebration that would occur once every 12 years.
During this Jubilee, all Christians will unite together as one, where debts will be forgiven, parties will be had, and charity on its highest level will take place⦠For once, the current system will be shocked, change will slowly take place, and eventually Charital āAgapeā will occur through pure Christian union.
Sort of like the Junilees that the Jews, and Egyptians had, which have always brought people together⦠It was a good thing⦠What do you think?
