What is the ONE thing that gets you through the day?

Is there a prayer, or practice, or thought, or meditation, or “whatever” that you do every day because it helps you get through the day? It helps you spiritually, redirects you to God, pulls you out of a slump or reminds you of your every day purpose?

Whatever I’m feeling - be it stress, tiredness, boredom, anger, frustration, or joy, love or happiness, I offer it up.

I just say ‘Jesus, I offer this (xyz specific thing) in union with Your merits and sufferings, for the conversion of souls, the relief of the souls in purgatory and in atonement for my sins and those of the whole world’.

When I need to put things into perspective, I lift my heart to my Beloved and offer everything to him to do with as he pleases. Helps me, anyway. 🙂

Receive the Eucharist. I am so grateful I can start everyday with this. I don’t have a ton of devotions, very few…ok, only one–morning prayer, but the Eucharist is the pinnacle.

coffee and metformin

regularizing my blood sugar has had such a dramatic effect on every aspect of my life, spiritual included. I literally could not make it through any kind of prayer time before my sugar and therefore moods, body processes, and so forth were under control. I am not being facetious.

When I need help, I recite the Gloria. I even have a chaplet of 9 x 9 = 81 beads for this devotion, that I carry with me.

I find myself saying, “Lord have mercy”, several times a day.

No doubt – the Rosary.

It gets me through the night too. I generally sleep with one in my hand.

I have prayed to Mary that when I clasp the Rosary in my hand it is really this – that as her child I want her to hold my hand. I often consider that spiritually I am much like a small child who still needs his mother.

The Rosary – because it is the gospel story. Of how Jesus was born and how He died for me and rose again. A story of victory. And not just a story that one reads, but a story that one can interact with – because we are in prayer. And because the angels are nearby to bring our prayers to the throne of God. And because Mary and the Holy Spirit work with our prayers to perfect them.

The Rosary – because it shows me how I should live better. I should have grace towards others like Mary. I should long to be with the Lord always as Mary is.

The one thing that gets me through my day is the thought that Jesus loved me so much that he was willing to suffer and die on the cross for my many sins.

Knowing that St. Joseph has my back, and that I have friends and family praying for me. I pray to St Joseph before work everyday, and as much of the rosary as I can before getting to work. Quite literally, it has been the intercession of the saints that have helped me get through the challenges of my new job the past two months. Reading the bible. There isn’t just one thing that gets me through the day! Also, when things get crazy at work or at home, some perspective helps. I have to remember that God is in charge and that trials and hardships are a drag, but we can’t get too caught up in those hardships and the day to day stress of our lives, we need to trust in God. This generally gets me back on track

Jesus, You whom I have never seen, never heard, who seem sometimes so far away, You who are truly the “hidden God,” although the attraction of that which you have denounced is so strong, and the forbidden fruit so close, it is You, Jesus, I choose, You I prefer, You I love.

I learned a happy little children’s song this past September, and I sing it to myself every time I need a lift - it goes:

"Good morning Jesus! This day’s for you! With all I think, all I say, and all I do!! Good morning Jesus! This day’s for you! With all I think, all I say, and all I do!! "

It was written by Dana, and apparently it is on her recently released children’s CD. 🙂

It even has actions, although I don’t normally do the actions, unless I’m sitting or standing still, and nobody is likely to be watching. :o

The Liturgy of the Hours allows me to mark off various times of the day, which is a good practice for me.

But nothing, and I mean nothing, gets me through my day more than knowing that my beautiful Filipina wife, with whom I have been united in the Holy Sacrament of Matrimony for over 17 years, will be there.

I would be one day older and that means I am one day closer to, by grace of God, seeing God face to face.

i try to pray lots of little prayers (like those in my signature…and others that are very short and only a few words long)…that way i have prayed throughout the day…and i am not overwhelming my self by saying to myself i will pray x prayers then i will do this and that…
there is no set structure that i have developed… i just try to pray them throughout the day

Praying the rosary for sure. And having a nap when I get home. And having good coworkers. And well behaved kids. Ok, that’s more than one.

Seeing my healthy six y.o. little girl. I know that God answers prayers and grants request every time I see her. Tim
