What is the origin of the psalm prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours?

For some reason, I thought Pope Pius X added this in his LOTH changes, yet I am failing to find it online via searching.

Do you know the origin of the psalm prayer addition?

Hi,

The psalm prayer is a recent addition. It is not found in editions of the Divine Office previous to the current one. Technically, it is not a part of the actual Liturgy of the Hours.
