What is the origin of the signing of the cross?

Hello. I was wondering if there is any mention in the bible on the signing of the cross. I know that there are many references to the “seal on the forhead” but is there anything that indicates the way we sign the cross? Thank you.

The sign of the cross is not found in Scripture, but came later. This is what the Old Catholic Encyclopedia says about it:
