What Is The Primary Reason You Are Catholic?

For those of you who profess and live the Catholic faith, what is the biggest reason you do so?

A) Logic

B) Family Upbringing

C) Personal Encounter With God

D) Beauty of Catholic Tradition

E) Witness of Other Catholics

F) Supernatural Phenomenon

G) Other (feel free to explain)

My answer would have to be C). When I attended a Stuebenville Youth Conference, and encountered Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration, I experienced Love. I didn’t know Who He was, or what I was all signing up for, but I knew He was good, the ultimate desire of my heart, and I decided to follow Him then and there. I’ve been learning how ever since. 😃
 
For me it’s B. I’m not sure what sort of faith, if any, I would have been drawn to otherwise but I think I would have found Catholicism intimidating.
 
I was brought up Catholic, but now I find a great deal of logic in it’s teachings and peace.
 
It’s truth.
Plain and simple/ It’s the Church founded by Christ Himself.
Theologians, Saints, Popes, seers, all have supported this and illustrated it in a magnificent way. I cannot fathom being anything else.
 
Logic played a big role for me. Being raised Catholic, I left the Church and dabbled in Protestantism for many years but came to realize that there was no grounding for Protestant theology since, by using Scripture as their sole source of authority, they circumvented the authority vested in the Church that Christ had established and that therefore possessed a true historic legacy back to Him. The very lynch pin of the whole Christian faith had been summarily tossed out, for all practical purposes, by the Reformers.

One of my main revelations regarding this truth came as I would argue Scripture with others to prove some theological point. Round and round we’d go, each coming up with verses that proved our opposing views quite plausibly, with no sure, external means of ascertaining which was right or not. Without the Church, without the family tree that traces its roots to the beginning, we have no ancestral voice that can speak up for itself and inform our varied opinions. Like it or not, if the doctrine of Sola Scriptura didn’t work, Protestant theology fell like a house of cards; there’s simply no way of knowing the truth in the end regardless of the level of biblical studies one has engaged in.

So logic-logic and Tradition.
 
Allow me to reply as to why I like the Catholic Church since I am Anglican.

My first experience was attending a friend’s funeral service at St. Jerome in Oconomowoc, Wi. I was so taken by this service; it seemed as though the Angels themselves were mourning there.
While attending the same Church some years later I noticed the great (and unexpected) devotion with which an older acquaintance presented the offering.
Another positive for me is the Catholic attitude towards non-Christian religions. While at a local Lutheran Church I asked one of the Pastors if his Church held that Muslims worshiped the same God as do Christians, and he replied that they do not.
The Catholic Church is so outspoken on this issue, and I think that is a great accomplishment.

Finally, the Catholic Church is the custodian of the most precious holy object in the world: our Lord’s sacred burial cloth that bears His miraculous Image.
 
I became a Catholic because I was raised as one.

I remain a Catholic because the Catholic Church has the fullness of the truth.
 
As pianistclare said, the truth.

But there were several factors I needed to find it in the Catholic Church.
As a child the beauty and traditions always impressed me and I felt drawn towards the church.

Later I found Christ through Mary in Lourdes.

However, the Church’s firm stance on “difficult” questions gives me the impression that The Catholic Church is the steady institution Jesus wanted it to be. It can be trusted.

For me it is A, logic. As a Protestant I was convinced of the truth of the Faith. But E, the witness of Catholics, helped motivate me. I was particularly moved to investigate the Church due to the witness of Catholics defending the sanctity of life. I was also moved by D, the beauty of Catholic tradition. Sadly that is something more historical than experienced.

For me, it’s A and D by far.
 
Jesus said…I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Jesus founded the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Church is the pillar and foundation of Truth.
 
The chief reason why I decided to be Catholic is the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.

It is at the very heart of my decision to turn away from the atheism of my youth and towards Christ.
 
I am blessed to having been born into a family who was Catholic.
I took it on for myself in 8th grade (confirmation year) when I finally
understood what the Catholic Church believes. Although KICKED-OUT
of the Roman Catholic Church by a priest, I remain a Catholic within the
Eastern Rite Catholic tradition. I have experienced God and could never
turn my back on him.
 
I choose all. 🙂

It would be hard to choose just one. I was brought up Catholic. But then, the witness of other Catholics led me to a personal encounter. After that, I read and read and the logic of the Catholic worldview answered all my lingering questions. Not one of those by themselves brought me to faith. It was all of them working together.
