What is the proper way to reserve the Blessed Sacrament in a chapel?

Recently I spent some time at a local Catholic retreat house which had a chapel containing the Blessed Sacrament. The Blessed Sacrament was in this ciborium on a one-pillar table made of tree parts. I don’t think that Our Lord should be reserved in this manner, but could anyone give me some information on how the Church teaches the Blessed Sacrament should be reserved in a chapel? Thanks!

The proper place to *reserve *the Blessed Sacrament is in a fixed and locked tabernacle.

However, there is nothing incorrect about exposing the Sacrament in a ciborium for perpetual adoration in such a chapel. (As for the esthetics of the placement of that ciborium: *De gustibus non est disputandum *:twocents: )

“For exposition of the blessed sacrament in the ciborium, at least two candles should be lighted and incense may be used.” (Holy Communion and the Worship of the Eucharist Outside Mass, n. 85.)

“[138.] Still, the Most Holy Sacrament, when exposed, must never be left unattended even for the briefest space of time. It should therefore be arranged that at least some of the faithful always be present at fixed times, even if they take alternating turns.” (2004 Instruction Redemptionis Sacramentum).

“… The ciborium or monstrance should be placed upon the table of the altar which is covered with a cloth. …” (Holy Communion and the Worship of the Eucharist Outside Mass, n. 93).

From the 2002 General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) approved for the USA, which can be accessed from romanrite.com/girm.html :
“301. … A movable altar may be constructed of any noble and solid materials suited to liturgical use, according to the traditions and usages of the different regions.”
