What is the protocol if you can't go to Communion?

I am waiting on an annulment, so I can’t go to communion. In the meantime, what is the protocol for those that can’t go to communion. It seems like some churches encourage you to go up and receive a blessing (approaching with your arms folded), and others do not. Is there something in the catechism regarding this?
