What is the purpose of lingerie?

Does anyone else wear it as a “secret” for yourself?

If I wake up, and I am already having a bad day, I find my frilly stuff and wear it. It seems to make me feel better. 🤷

Like I said on the other post, as long as there is no objectification, ok. It is less of a danger with lingerie. Besides, I know of a lot of women who were it because it helps their image of themselves. Even if no one sees it, they say, it makes them feel beautiful.
I wear fancy underwera becaiuse I like the way it looks on me. I don’ have a bf or anything at all. To me it’s all about fashion. I love fashion. It’s a form artistic expression. I never wear grammy panties. I hate them. Al my underwear have to be cute or stylish. And I know it’s under my clothes and no one will see it but me but who cares?

I feel the same way about wearing pretty bras. No one will see them but it makes me feel extra pretty, especially when I wear a pretty top.

No disrespect to anyone but its kept the husband comming home now for 26 years. And it sure can get him to do alot of work around the house . But i also agree with others that it makes you feel and look good to yourself too. It makes you feel like a woman. But hey i guess its not for everyone. I also think whatever is between a husband and wife is ok, as long as they are both happy. (within reason of course). What happens in the bedroom stays in the bedroom.

I thought I was alone in thinking about being in an accident with an ugly pair of underwear.
“Ripped underwear attracts careless drivers.”

😃

I’m not married but I think it also helps woman who don’t want to get naked during cohabitation stay covered up somewhat while still trying to look attractive for their husband.

Some of it I have seen is quite skanky (I hate walking by the Victoria’s Secret store at the mall) but some of it can be really pretty too.

To signal to the husband that the wife is “in the mood”.

[maybe]

[possibly]

[potentially]

Whatevergirl, I think there’s some difference between a bit of lace here and there, and come-hither imagery. 😉 Personally, I find the come-hithers objectifying, although I don’t have that feeling about beautiful lace pieces. Whatever looks like a prostitute’s work equipment is bad in my eyes, whatever doesn’t really isn’t necessarily bad. Elegant and delicate is not bad. Saucy and racy… I’d stay away from definite judgement, but it’s just not my cup of tea. I don’t like steam. Where I will not hesitate in making a definite judgement is taking after prostitutes and porn industry. That should never be done. Human dignity is not expendable.

On the other hand, maybe we should lighten up.

😉

I think it might have to do with age too. I’m 20 and other girls in my age group tend to not take wearing underwear from VS as something horrid but then older women seem to get insulted by it and insist on wearing those “comfortable” parachute like underwear.

Plus the shock value attributed to these garments have changed. Thongs and lace underwear are not just for sexual encounters anymore.
I have a few thongs but to me they’re just cute underwear where as our parents find it shocking that we would wear such things.
They have all these ideas in their heads as to what it “means”.
Does that fact that a girl wears a thong “mean” that she’s a harlot?
Uh…no.
Just because someone dresses a certain way does not necessarily mean they are a certain way. Sometimes the plainest girl in the room is also the skankiest.
For example, since I’ve been in japan for awhile I’ve made the observation that pure white underwear is considered desirable.
Unfortunately for a bad reason. It is common for 14 year old innocent looking school girls to “date” older pederastic/pedophilic old men for cash. So things generally attributed to modesty and purity are considered much more arousing( pale skin, school uniforms, white socks and underwear, childish manner of speech). an older girl who is sexually knowledgeable or developed is not( darker skin, curves, more mature manner of speech). Women who are considered sexy by American standards are also seen as too aggressive in Japan. They’re too womanly. Men here seem extremly shy about approaching or speaking to women. So they prefer those who are very very young, immature and (seemingly) stupid.
Everything must be “kawaii!”(cute). Unfortunately this seems to lead to a huge tolerance for pedophilic attraction.

Not all of us older women dislike nice underwear.😊

Any way, the ER Nurse that took care of me came to see me the next day to see how I was doing, and she commented on my Mickey Mouse Boxers that I was wearing. So they do notice and remember.
We only notice and remember the exceptional ones. I worked for 5 years in a trauma unit, and the only undies I can truly remember during that time were a pair of Sponge Bob boxers (first time I had ever seen those), and a transvestite’s black and gold girly-panties. I mainly remember the latter because they were on a male, and because we had to cut them off. And I couldn’t tell you who had on the Sponge Bobs if my life depended on it. So don’t worry. 😉

I have nothing against nice undies, and even own a few which are saved for special occasions, but as we get older, we often have other priorities. Adult life gets very busy, and in the process, many of life’s little luxuries can get lost in the shuffle. It’s far easier to deal with cotton granny-panties which can be thrown into the washer and dryer than to have to hand-wash the delicate, lacy stuff. I’m simply too busy to worry about being glamorous on a daily basis.

I just throw them all in together. Well, ok… the “delicates” go in a lingerie bag, but that’s it.
Life is too short to handwash your undies!

granny panties…hee hee that’s funny!😃

My son says that in the locker room, boys are teased who wear ‘whitie tighties.’ hahaha I have never heard of these expressions. 😊 😛

There is (or ought to be) a substantial difference between the relationship between husband/wife and all other relationships.

Husbands & wives have a lot on their mind; tremendous responsibilities. A little lingerie may lighten things up a tad.

For all others … probably off limits.

Lace not really, but thongs I associate with showing. No one knows it’s a thong unless it shows. Underwear should not show.

I’m 24 and fairly laid-back, so you can’t call me a pre-WW2 conservative, but I still react ill to thongs. They show too much, they originated in a wrong line of work and at any rate, no man other than husband or sometimes doctor should ever be in a position to be able to tell that a woman is wearing one. Straps have to stay inside and lines should transpire through the dress or trousers. It’s not proper wear for swimming pools, beaches and the like, either. The same goes for cleavage.
Just because someone dresses a certain way does not necessarily mean they are a certain way.
That’s correct only if you talk about identifiers. Some clothes identify certain subcultures and other groups. The problem with thongs is not just that porn stars wear them, but that they show too much and that they appeal to imagination the wrong way. So long as no one is able to tell what kind of underwear the girl is wearing, it’s her own problem only. But if she chooses to wear thongs on a beach, she can’t really say just because she dresses that way doesn’t mean she is that way. I would say even more: just because someone acts in some way doesn’t mean he is that way, but this doesn’t remove the problem of the act.

I don’t handwash my delicate underwear either. They seem to hold up fine if they are put in a lingerie bag. 🙂 Now I admit that I don’t wear thongs, they just seem to uncomfortable, but I have never noticed that nicer looking underwear is any less comfortable to wear then the granny type. Also, some of the cotton type underwear that they make now and days is very cute. So if someone simply wasn’t into lace but wanted to look feminine, there would still be some variety.

This thread is making me want to buy some new items. And I can’t because I am broke.😦
