Carrie…I have nothing against nice undies, and even own a few which are saved for special occasions, but as we get older, we often have other priorities. Adult life gets very busy, and in the process, many of life’s little luxuries can get lost in the shuffle. It’s far easier to deal with cotton granny-panties which can be thrown into the washer and dryer than to have to hand-wash the delicate, lacy stuff. I’m simply too busy to worry about being glamorous on a daily basis.
I think you are referiing to some girls that pull their thongs UP whilst wearing LOW rise jeans. I do niether. I wear thongs because It prevents me from having a VPL. You can’t see someone’s thong unless they dress in such a way that makes it visable such as pulling the straps toward the waist. But you can see someone’s underwear through their cotton pants or skirt. Especially if your cabbose is rounder than the average woman’s. Thongs leave more to the imagination than regular underwear do because you cannot see them through your clothes. Plus VPL is tacky.Lace not really, but thongs I associate with showing. No one knows it’s a thong unless it shows. Underwear should not show.
I’m 24 and fairly laid-back, so you can’t call me a pre-WW2 conservative, but I still react ill to thongs. They show too much, they originated in a wrong line of work and at any rate, no man other than husband or sometimes doctor should ever be in a position to be able to tell that a woman is wearing one. Straps have to stay inside and lines should transpire through the dress or trousers. It’s not proper wear for swimming pools, beaches and the like, either. The same goes for cleavage.
That’s correct only if you talk about identifiers. Some clothes identify certain subcultures and other groups. The problem with thongs is not just that porn stars wear them, but that they show too much and that they appeal to imagination the wrong way. So long as no one is able to tell what kind of underwear the girl is wearing, it’s her own problem only. But if she chooses to wear thongs on a beach, she can’t really say just because she dresses that way doesn’t mean she is that way. I would say even more: just because someone acts in some way doesn’t mean he is that way, but this doesn’t remove the problem of the act.
I don’t have any concerns with the type of underclothing anyone is wearing. I am not going to judge someone based on items of clothing that I can’t see anyway.I think you are referiing to some girls that pull their thongs UP whilst wearing LOW rise jeans. I do niether. I think that I would rather have a visible panty line then people think that I was running around without underwear!Sorry, I’ve never bought the excuse that thongs don’t create a pantyline. Thongs create a very visible pantyline more so I think than regular underwear. It’s very obvious when someone is wearing one.
I guess it’s a uniquely western thing. I know there’s all this concern with modesty…but scrupulosity is worse. I don’t put that much stock into conforming to what some people deem modest becasue it’s not a fixed concept. After all, Ppl in Islamic countries think even the most modestly dressed Americans look like whores. I don’t worry about the little details too much. One could argue that wearing clothes are the very source of imodesty. Many in other countries wear nothing at all and don’t necessarilly equate nakedness with sex. But when you wear clothes all the time it makes it seem more forbiddon. Remember all that crazy get up that women wore in Europe? Maddness!I think that I would rather have a visible panty line then people think that I was running around without underwear!![]()
I have never understood that either. From a guys point of view, if you see a VPL, you know they have underwear on…if you don’t…you always wonder…I think that I would rather have a visible panty line then people think that I was running around without underwear!![]()
That’s tightie whities.granny panties…hee hee that’s funny!
My son says that in the locker room, boys are teased who wear ‘whitie tighties.’ hahaha I have never heard of these expressions.![]()

You stole that Joke from Dave Chappelle…Lol!I’m of the opinion that whatever you want to wear under your clothes is okay, because nobody’s going to see it unless you’re married anyway.
But to chime in on the “do thongs identify you as a harlot” debate, I do think you should be careful with what clothes you wear. Sure, dressing like a harlot doesn’t mean you act like one. But one of my male friends put it to me this way:
If you were looking for help, and saw a man in a policeman’s uniform, you’d ask him, right? And if he weren’t a cop, but was just wearing the uniform, would it be reasonable of him to be mad at you for assuming he was a police officer? In the same way, if you saw a girl dressed like a harlot, how can she get angry when you act as if she is one? She’s wearing the uniform…
.
Primarily so, although I stick by the idea that visible panty lines aren’t a good thing or that in such circumstances as one is around the opposite gender in his underwear only, thongs aren’t great attire either.I think you are referiing to some girls that pull their thongs UP whilst wearing LOW rise jeans.
You can. And it’s not like I stare. Maybe I’m not including the ones I haven’t seen, but I’ve seen a lot of visible thong lines without wishing to.Especially if your cabbose is rounder than the average woman’s. Thongs leave more to the imagination than regular underwear do because you cannot see them through your clothes.
Yup.Plus VPL is tacky.
I’d disagree. Perhaps where I live, going without underwear is just too unimaginable. I know from an American acquaintance that visible lines partly serve the purpose of showing one is actually wearing underwear, but I believe the fact of wearing underwear (i) should be assumed, (ii) is no one’s business, while visible lines are unaesthetic.I have never understood that either. From a guys point of view, if you see a VPL, you know they have underwear on…if you don’t…you always wonder…
Doh! I knew I heard it somewhere! Well, he has a point. You stole that Joke from Dave Chappelle…Lol!
Then again, who am I to judge if I have nothing better to do than post on what the purpose of lingerie is?
OK. I confess I have not read the thread, and I apologize for stating the obvious.Seriously. I’m not being naive. I am asking this question, as a spin off of one of the posters’ threads…relating to racy pics between a husband and wife. I would assume that racy pics wouldn’t be of a person who is wearing jeans and a t-shirt. So, most likely, those pics are of a wife, perhaps, wearing lingerie, posing seductively. (thus the term racy)
But, let’s remove the camera for a moment…what is the point of lingerie? Do you personally buy it/wear it?
For the men–do you buy it for your wives? If so, why?
If we are to live our marriages out in a lust-free way…do you feel that lingerie contributes to or doesn’t contribute to, thinking lustfully about one’s spouse? (namely the way a man views his wife) The way it is marketed to the general public, the message is driven home that a woman should be wearing lingerie for her man, to appear more desireable. (but is that the same as lust?)
So…what is the purpose of lingerie?
