What is the purpose of lingerie?

I guess it’s a uniquely western thing. I know there’s all this concern with modesty…but scrupulosity is worse. I don’t put that much stock into conforming to what some people deem modest becasue it’s not a fixed concept. After all, Ppl in Islamic countries think even the most modestly dressed Americans look like whores. I don’t worry about the little details too much. One could argue that wearing clothes are the very source of imodesty. Many in other countries wear nothing at all and don’t necessarilly equate nakedness with sex. But when you wear clothes all the time it makes it seem more forbiddon. Remember all that crazy get up that women wore in Europe? Maddness!
Modesty has to be looked at if one is a Christian because the bible tells us to be modest. The bible does not tell us “What” modesty is, so among Christians there is probably a lot more debate then among Muslims on this issue. I think that one has to take one’s culture and the individual intent into deciding what is modest. As long as I am not trying to drive anyone but my hubby wild with desire, I am pretty safe in this regard.🙂

But getting back into the discussion of underwear. I said before, I don’t care what anyone wears under their clothing. You could go commando and it would be no concern of mine. 🤷 I certainly would not call you a harlot because of the type of undergarments that you choose to wear- or not wear.🙂

Carrie…
No woman should be subjected to wearing Granny Undies…

I mean if you are looking for wash and wear you can do so much better than that…your bum deserves better:D
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Mine aren’t as ugly as that!!!

I’ve been dragging my poor old bum around for over half a century, so Ms. Bum doesn’t really care what she wears anymore as long as she is comfy. And since DH took a hike 15 years ago, he doesn’t get a vote. At least I wear the hi-cut ones so they don’t sag like the ones in your photo! And when my 80-year-old mother was in the hospital last spring, I threw her laundry in with mine and had no trouble telling which panties were hers – hers DO look like the ones in the photo!

My beloved Grandmother, who died at around eighty, wore similar underwear. I wonder if these were in style when they were young.

The grandmother of one of my high school teachers died during the school year. When my teacher returned, she had an interesting story to tell us.

In her grandmother’s instructions for her funeral, she dictated what she wanted to be buried in:
  • A pink leather suit
  • red lacy bra and panties
When she was alive she never had the courage to whether either (even though her personality was as wild as her burial outfit), but wanted to be buried in them!
Just goes to show that even gramma’s want sassy undies.

You mean I’m not automatically a slut for hating underwear and going without as often as possible? Saints be praised! 😃

Seriously, this is something I wonder about. I’ve been with one man in my life (DH, and only after we were married 😉 I’ve lived a chaste life, comport myself modestly, dress stylishly and mostly very conservatively - except I hate panties more than I can possibly say (microfiber hiphuggers are the only kind I can abide for any length of time). And I feel like most religious people would think I’m demonic or something if they knew :o But it’s nothing at all to do with sex, only comfort. And I never ever go without when there’s the slightest chance my choice could be detected.

Even my very sexually “liberated” sister thinks it’s icky, but after a TMI discussion, we discovered I’m apparently unusual, in that my clothes don’t need as much “protection from the elements” as other women’s might. And no, it doesn’t make me more ready to go/aware of sex or anything like that.

I would switch to old fashioned tap pants if I could afford the switch, but they’re much harder to come by.

On the other hand, I never go without a bra. And I wear slips/stockings when needed.

DH and I see nothing wrong with fancy undies for the bedroom, but my collection is small still. I’d rather spend the money on shoes.

I googled Tap pants. They look like boy shorts or cheekies.
I mean the much looser ones, like you see in old movies/movies about the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. They aren’t form fitting at all, more like boxers for women, but usually made of silk.

From what I recall, they didn’t have much choice when they were young. I remember my mother talking about wearing bloomers – even baggier than granny-panties. Elastic wasn’t very good back then, and she said that it was just in a casing, not sewn to the waistband. So if the elastic died, your bloomers would fall down around your ankles. Mom said that this happened to her once as she was running to catch a bus.

The point of having elastic in a casing was that when it got “tired,” you just slit the casing at the seam, pulled out the worn elastic and put in a new one. That’s what “bodkins” were for! If you didn’t have a bodkin, you could use a safety pin. . . . .

:rotfl: lol
this thread has gone totally awry! haha I have no idea what you are talking about!!! hahahaha

You are right. I got all distracted into the construction specifics of bloomer-type underpants . . . Mea culpa.

My family was in the business of manufacturing lingerie. I can get pretty excited about this!

There’s a specific genre of Japanese hentai the revolves around japanese girls’s underear just falling down at random times
